Knowing what I know about KA pledge classes, this was probably his first time to do drugs and couldn't handle it. Things may have changed since I was at LSU but I would be shocked if he came up clean if they drug tested him shortly after the incident.

Yes and the fraternity should not be disciplined for his action. They've had 2 weeks to get to know this kid. He wears their pledge pin though so LSU is within their rights to investigate
