Arizona was the first state to impose a testing program. In 2009, it began testing new welfare recipients when there was a "reasonable cause" to suspect illicit drug use. So how many of the 87,000 people subjected to the program have tested positive since then? Just one. That's right. The much-touted program netted a single drug abuser. The biggest reason is likely the way Arizona determines "reasonable cause." Essentially, the state asks new recipients whether they've used drugs in the past 30 days, and only those who answer yes are tested. With no penalty for lying, a couple of dozen owned up. Of those, several tested negative; the rest failed to take the test.

so the OP is lying his arse off and using misleading info

damn even by tangerine standards, this is awful

I never understood the thought process behind correlating welfare and drug use

The point is that the program as is is a waste of money. Tests should be random

Same can be said about random drug screens in the work place. But i still have to take one to keep my job.

As is the program is a waste. I'm glad you see that this report is a sham and the numbers do not reflect the actual percentage if this program followed the same guidelines as the drug screening of the working class.

Drug testing paid for by the government is extremely wasteful and, obviously, a waste of time.

why not? Most people collecting pay checks have to submit to random drug test why shouldn't welfare recipients?

I piss in a pill bottle on a monthly basis for my buddies in the oil field. Bogus as it gets and they aren't going to shell out for follicle test everytime.

Wasteful spending by big government doesn't sound like something a (fiscal) conservative should support.

The hair testing is about twice as expensive is what I heard. Some of the industrial sites are going to this as a way to check on a longer timeframe in the past and probably to get more of the synthetic marihuana users

What percentage of the people who blew off the test because they knew they were dirty were clean?

Spend on a more accurate test. If that leads to saving more than you spent, I'm good with that.

If not, go random with pee tests.

No one on drugs should get welfare.
