Arizona was the first state to impose a testing program. In 2009, it began testing new welfare recipients when there was a "reasonable cause" to suspect illicit drug use. So how many of the 87,000 people subjected to the program have tested positive since then? Just one. That's right. The much-touted program netted a single drug abuser. The biggest reason is likely the way Arizona determines "reasonable cause." Essentially, the state asks new recipients whether they've used drugs in the past 30 days, and only those who answer yes are tested. With no penalty for lying, a couple of dozen owned up. Of those, several tested negative; the rest failed to take the test.

so the OP is lying his arse off and using misleading info

I agree notiger. Food stamps are about 4th on my list of government assistance that needs to be addressed. I literally know a lady on disability for karpaltunnel. She hasn't worked for 8 years as she had been fighting in court for it. She also works two cash jobs on the side, gets food stamps, the whole 9 yards. It's crazy.

This is a shitty and misleading article and you know it you piece of shite.

You had to admit to using drugs before you were tested in North Carolina. No shite the rate is low.

That's unquestionably below the average across the rest of society to a significant degree. If anything, it seems like pretty damn strong evidence that there's some significant causation occurring here.

Now which causation is more likely? That simply being on welfare is going to lower drug use or that needing to pass a drug test to keep your welfare is going to lower drug use?

I'd lean pretty strongly towards the latter, in which case, the policy is working!

This shows without ANY possible doubt that the testing was flawed beyond belief. Anyone that believes one person out of 87,000 tested positive must have the IQ of an ant.

Yeah, we have had more people fail that in a random drug test at work and there's only a few hundred here. They must have been notified in advance. If that's the case anyone can pass a urinalysis if they take a little initiative.

So.... either people on welfare arent doing drugs, or the ones who do drugs are no longer applying for welfare....

seems like a success to me?

Word.

I've said this for years. He is just as bad, if not worse, than the people he hates. And what he doesn't realize is that he is the very same person he despises but he hasn't realized it yet.

They should do a study on how many of them go to casinos. Heck, if I remember correctly, CATS has a bus stop at Lauberge in BR. Can't afford a 50 cent increase in ticket prices, but those 50 pennies go so well with penny slots.

Welfare people should stay at the belle and Hollywood where they belong

Who cares about damn drug test. Audit their eligibility! That program is getting conned at a high rate. It appears the Program is easy to rip off. Street info on playing the system is common knowledge. State and Feds appear not to care about abuse.

Drug Use in Arizona: The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) provides national and state-level data on the use of tobacco, alcohol, illicit drugs (including non-medical use of prescription drugs), and mental health in the United States. In the most recent Survey, 8.95 percent of Arizona residents reported using illicit drugs in the past month. The national aveage was 8.02 percent. Additionally, 4.45 percent of Arizona residents reported using an illicit drug other than marijuana in the past month. The national average was 3.58 percent.

In Arizona, more than 87,000 welfare recipients went through drug testing and only one person tested positive, USA Today reports

1/87000 = 0.0000115 %

STUDY FINDS ONLY 0.0000115% OF THE LOW SOCIOECONOMIC CLASS USES ILLICIT SUBSTANCE OVER A 6 MONTH PERIOR IN A STATE WHERE 8.95% OF THE CITIZENS ADMIT TO MONTHY DRUG USE.

the drug use rate of the non welfare population is thus 778260 times larger than those on welfare.

Completely legit study and relievable results.

Based on the above and my above post we can deduce that welfare recipients in Arizona are roughly 800,000 more likely to lie than the general public.

The point is that the program as is is a waste of money. Tests should be random
