Made the drive multiple times living in Denver and coming back to Birmingham. To Birmingham, 70 to Salina or all the way to KC. On the way back to Denver, usually would take turns driving to Hayes, Kansas or so.

On the way back to your home I’d go 70 to Salina and start heading south.

If you don’t go through Quanah Parker, Texas you are doing it wrong. They have a Wal Marks.

287 is specifically meant to be the route from DFW to Denver. If you go another way it is for scenery

Do not take 70 through Kansas, most boring drive ever

Go to south Colorado from Houston every year for hunting and some version of 1 is the way. Waze comes up with a new through Amarillo every year.

#1 is the route I took. Kinda assumed that was “the way”.

We make that drive most years. Route 1 through Amarillo is the answer. Just do it in one 12 hour day. No need to stop. We do stop in Wichita Falls usually on way back to BR.

Option 1 and stay under 95 mph south of Amarillo, or you will get pulled over!

Option 1. You’ll get a speeding ticket in Claude, TX but that’s all part of the charm.

This is undoubtedly old man yells at cloud, but I truly miss pulling out the maps and actually deciding for yourself the best route. Knowing exactly how to get to every business in a city is pretty great, but planning a multi-state trip on the dinning room table is real collateral damage.

Terry Allen- Amarillo Highway

But 287 thru Amarillo and we either spend the night in Amarillo or Childress. Make sure you reserve a hotel room ahead of time as they fill up fast.

Two lane highways suck. Take the interstate route.

The bombing memorial and the museum next to it are interesting.

I did 287 from around Dallas to Amarillo as part of a drive to Vegas I did last summer. Was pleasantly surprised at how good the road was. Almost all 4 lane as I recall and good quality road. There are a few small towns you have to go through, but nothing that really slowed me down.

I concur, drove Dallas to Colorado Springs last year. Was definitely pleasantly surprised.

If you have kids, they have an awesome children’s museum.
