Drove once from midland to Denver.

That’s a rough stretch. Much further than anticipated

Option 1. I do that drive at least 5 times a year.

The bad news is there isn’t any good overnights. Amarillo is the best option.

Sometimes when I’m hauling horses I sleep at the rest stop outside Des Moines NM since it has a couple of corrals at it.

I am driving this route from BR to Dillon, Co in a few weeks. I am struggling to find a place to spend the night on the way up. Not much after Amarillo and I don’t want to get stuck in a roach motel or driving straight through.

South through Raton NM is best. Idk what scenery is to you but it parallels a mountain range. Once you head East in NM you get towards Texas and the Llano Estacado. That part sucks if it’s dark or you’re not into the history of the area. It’s the best drive from La to Wyoming for highschool and college nationals rodeo.

Still the best route imo

70 through Kansas, most boring drive ever
Went on a ski trip to Aspen and had a buddy living in Ok. City. Left late afternoon and got to Ok. City early the next morning. Then took this route. Never again.

Really once you get to OKC, the rest of the 12 hour drive to Denver is just flat open grass land, incredibly boring. One time we got caught in a bad storm and had to spend 2 nights in Hayes, Kansas, which was miserable, needless to say.

287 through Amarillo is the way to go. You can’t beat the drive along the front range then through Raton pass on I-25. You don’t get any of that through Kansas.

There’s a trucker shortcut through Boys Town. Cool scenery.

From 385, left on 1061, then south on 335 to I 40.

Also, you should hit up the Big Texan.

As others have said, the 287 route is the best. When I was stationed in Denver, I used to have to go to Altus OK quite a bit and always took that route. The roads are very good.

287 is the best unless the OKC bombing memorial is of any interest. Driving on 70 is like driving on a pool table. Traffic on 35 approaching Texas usually backs up and is under construction in Texas. At times the delays are ridiculous.
The steak place in Amarillo is overrated.

287 is a nice drive. Stop at the Big Texan in Amarillo for a steak and then Herd Wear an hour east of town for some cool hats and buffalo stuff.

You don’t go for the steak.
