Mustang was the fastest on the drag strip, and the least trashy-looking by far.

I’m actually surprised the Trans Am is getting so much love here.

I’m biased as I got one when I was 15. Had the V8 with a 5 speed even. Looking back my parents where crazy to give me that. It’s a miracle I didn’t kill my self in it.

The IROC-Z Camaro is by far the better performing car of that group. Drive it.

People pay ridiculous money for Trans Ams. Sell it.

Burn the Mustang but look away as I do it.

Perfectly stated.

They are all good cars - performance wise- for the money.

I remember when the Texas State Troopers starting driving black and white ones. One time when I was driving 80 through East Texas on I-20, a Vette passed me going at least 90. A few minutes later one of those DPS IROC's passed us. I was driving, he had his lights flashing, and I didn't see him until he was coming around me. He had to be going 110-120 mph. The line of traffic I was in all slowed down to around 74. We topped a hill and had to all get in the left lane because that trooper had gotten in front of the Vette, and forced him to stop in the right lane. He was walking up to the driver's window with a big grin on his face.

Guy driving the Vette was seemed pretty calm, as did the blonde with him. I wondered if that cop knew them, and was just having fun stopping him like that. When I saw his car in front like that, after the speeds they were going, I started worrying about them having a shootout as we passed by.

No, you ain’t. Mustang pretty much dominated from the early 80’s through the 90’s. The only GM product that ran with them during that time was the Grand National, and a few hundred in parts for the Mustang, and the Grand National was toast too.

Could be a 4 cylinder in that Camaro.

It’s going back to it’s maker.

Keep IROC
Sell Trans Am
Burn Mustang

That was a REALLY bad era for the Mustang. I hate that body style. Ugly, slow, and unreliable.

Surprise: The new turbo 2.0L Malibu can run 156 mph. That was the fastest car I didn’t know about until recently.

quote:

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 6.1 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 15.4 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 29.9 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 6.7 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 3.0 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 4.0 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.7 sec @ 97 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 156 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 167 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.87 g

The above numbers on the Malibu Turbo spanks the IROC, Mustang Five Point Slow, or the Firebird.....and it’s basically an Uber car.

Had no idea it was that fast.

That Malibu could go 200 mph and still not be as fun to drive as an old stick shift GT in my opinion.

I am not comparing sales figures, I am comparing Mustang years to Mustang Years. That period for me had some of the worst body styles and engine combinations ever to have the Mustang name placed on them.

Hell, during some of the 70's the Mustang was basically a Pinto - a freaking PINTO! Look at what happened from 69/70 to 79/80. The freaking oil embargo and price of gas and "fuel economy" almost killed what is the greatest US muscle car.
