my grandmother always had a half full bottle when i was growing up and i would sneak into her medicine cabinet just to smell it.

i swear it had a unique aroma that to this day i've never smelled anywhere else.

been looking for it for years at antique stores.

Any baws have any stories?

quote:

Besides being a Confederate soldier, Tichenor offered his concoction for wounded Confederate soldiers. Yankee prisoners with battle wounds were out of luck. A drawing of a Confederate battle flag adorned Dr. Tichenor’s bottle labels at least until the 1960s. Besides being a commander of the Louisiana division of the United Confederate Veterans, he was a devout Southern Baptist.

Never used it, but I drank some of it when I was about 13 years old at a friend's house.

I knew kids in junior high that would buy it because of the alcohol content. Nasty

My family had a pharmacy in rural N. La. This stuff was cheap in the 60s and 70s. There were people who bought that to drink instead of alcohol. They did the same with Listerine as well.

There were some old bums that used to sleep under our porch sometimes and they’d leave their empty tichenor’s bottles behind

Aloe Vera, Dr. Tichenor's, & Robitussin. Whatever ailed you was was going be treated with one of those before a doctor had to get involved.

Yep. I can smell it now.

I’m not sure if this is true but I was always told (maybe a cautionary tale) that I had a relative who was such a bad drunk he died drinking Dr. Tichenor’s.

I’ve downed numerous bottles without issue (jk).

I used the mouthwash once. I then learned you were suppose to dilute it first. Rough stuff
