What? Where is this?

Is this just a strawman to make you feel like you've made a reasonable argument?

Is there a list of infectious disease experts more objective than Fauci? The best doctors on this subject around the world seen to mostly be in agreement. I'm sure there are a couple that disagree about certain aspects, but there appears to be a consensus among the experts in the field.

I hope they are wrong, but we can't just change the facts based on hopes (or political fandom).

This is the pandemic Fauci has always dreamed of. He is thriving on the chaos. He needs to be replaced by someone more objective.

This is a good thing—that your doctors aren’t basing their practice habits on feelings and anecdotal evidence

My wife is a pharmacy tech and the first time Trump mentioned the drug, she told me a doctor had come down to the pharmacy a few days before to fill a prescription he had written for himself and his wife for the drug.
But I guess this doctor was just superstitious and doesn’t know anything either.

There are a lot of people who drank orange juice and got better. People swear by placebos all the time.

I really hope that this helps significantly. But I want to see the data, not rely on anecdotes.

What’s dumb is how people - the OP included - have invested so much of their self-esteem in whether or not this is “a game changer”. The truth about this drug has been known for weeks. It helps some people if it’s administered early and before they are critically ill. That’s it, and there isn’t any more.

The same people who have been calling their idealogical opponents vile names like libtards and Trumpkins - the caustic on both sides - have moved their hateful arguments to the corona virus. More evidence for what I’ve always thought, that the political spectrum is really a circle. And if you keep moving to the left and to the right they eventually meet at the bottom in the sludge. Neo-Nazis and Antifa, the dregs of society.

She should probably replace Dr. Fauci. The anecdotal, third hand info from a pharmacy tech is compelling.

This comes from the guy (Fauci) who said don’t wear masks it will increase your likelihood to get sick. One month later he recommends people wear masks.

You nailed it. The problem here is that people are living in fear right now. Fear is the chief activator of bringing out the worst in people. We saw that after 9/11, we saw it after Katrina, and we're seeing it now. People get hateful during times like this, when the reality is this is the time (of all times) when we need to be unified.

ETA: people are going to draw a line in the sand and pick something about this. Maybe it's the we need to get back to work crowd vs. the we need to stay home crowd. Or maybe it's the hydroxychloroquine/anti-hydroxycholoroquine attack. Something.

I don't know what it is, but there will be one thing. And the people on one side of that will absolutely obliterate the character of the people on the other side, and vice versa.

I don't know why some people's natural fail safe state is that they get off on that too. They love fighting and bickering all the time.

I'm gonna say it again. The ONE time we need to stop that shite and come together and help one another, is a time like right now. And you have everybody wanting to "motherfricker" that one, and "retard" this one, etc. Sad.

Do you need a circus mirror to capture your full image?

Jan 27th - “Americans have nothing to worry about” - Dr Fauci

Dr Fauci , Don’t wear masks. 2 weeks later Do wear masks.

Fauci isn’t helping anyone. He is causing more chaos in an already chaotic ordeal.

From the three studies that have been published (2 French and one Chinese so you know that one’s bullshite) one study says it mitigates effects and helps recovery if given early and to people not in critical care. Basically it could be a preventative drug.

The other study where it was given to people in hospitals in critical condition showed it had little to no effect on the patients and I don’t believe it resulted in anyone coming off a ventilator.

Because there are also testimonials about alien abductions and bigfoot sightings, folks claim all kind of things helped them, it is the ultimate form of confirmation bias.

Yeah, those are exactly the same, alien abductions and Bigfoot sighting occur in a hospital environment at the direction of a physician.

Not all anecdotal evidence is equal. Some prompt actual scientific testing and study. Hydroxychloriquine seems to show promise and some small scale studies in France as well as Some Chinese studies I would classify as dubious because I just don’t trust the Chinese seem to indicate a benefit to those infected.

Fauci has repeatedly said that, while the anecdotal evidence and uncontrolled studies may look good, further controlled studies would be required to establish actual efficacy. He also understands that in the midst of a pandemic, less than conventional methods may be required short term. I think his concern is that people will go back to business as usual if they thinK there is a magic bullet out there when the science is not conclusive at this point.

Prior to the Trump announcement, the combo protocol was already being talked about in the physician social network (i.e. word of mouth, international covid related Facebook groups etc.) Given the promising anecdotal evidence. I knew several who went out and filled prescriptions for the drugs.

I don't know why everyone has a hard on for fauci. He's a very smart man whos fame is from his role in the hiv epidemic, but that doesn't mean he's infallible. But he's right we should be cautious, but doesn't mean we shouldn't be using the protocol based on the info at hand. The study lacks power in numbers but it was very promising.
