and the HAZMAT contractor is waiting for a bin to be delivered from Lake Charles to collect contaminated sand and ash from the site.

As I expected a failure in the process and equipment.

That bin, plus three extra bins, should have been at the foot of the bridge in Henderson on Monday night.

It doesn’t take 42 hours to clean up the wreck in the photos unless someone doesn’t have the right equipment, manpower, or process.

no offense, but you didn't see the site. Your criticism may be legit- there's probably some truth to it.
But in this case I did get to see the site from the eastbound lanes. It was a mess. Not surprised at all its taken 48 hours.

They should have already built a bypass lane, this virtual one didn't take that long to do...

Just make the other bridge single-lane to accommodate both directions of traffic.
Which would then create a clusterfrick of traffic on I-10 in both directions. And it'll be even worse when someone inevitably breaks down or gets a flat tire on the bridge.

I wonder how much it would cost to add another bridge between them to make it 6 lanes.

That would last like less than a minute before a wreck happened.

I'd really love to see a parallel road constructed just for semis to drive on.

One travel lane and a breakdown lane so those motherfrickers can't pass each other going a half mile an hour faster than the other.

Just out of spite.

I20 to Monroe, US165 to Alexandria, I49 to Lafayette.

ETA: What ever you decide, taking I10 through Baton Rouge should NEVER be an option! (I live in EBR parish)

I honestly can't imagine trying to build/expand a freeway through a swamp in today's permitting environment. The number of federal requirements for going through a swamp would be insane.

Is that corn or bananas or what?

Either way, probably insulated the bridge from the fire.

issue automatic tickets for speeding on that bridge

As much as I hate places with speed cameras, They should have a speed camera station every mile. People will stop speeding when they receive 20 separate tickets in the mail.

I watched a documentary on the basin bridge the other day, its crazy to think they got it done in three years. I couldn't fathom how long it would take today.

The dotd camera near the wreck only shows 3 trucks left at the wreck and I think they are restriping the road. I would bet that it opens in the next hour or so.

If I were queen of North America, all of the interstates would have an infrastructure upgrade which would be the addition of a third set of lanes. Interstate quality. Accessable from either direction. To be used when repairs need to be made in one of the other two sets of lanes. To be used on a standard rotation otherwise so that tree trimming, painting, new Jersey divider repairs, repaving can all be done as preventative maintenance.
