DoorDash Driver was not happy about $2 tip

Are tips shown to the driver immediately or after they close out the ticket?

I tip a minimum of $7 for DoorDash

10-15% of what the food actually costs, before all the markups and fees. They don't prep it, check it for accuracy, etc.

If they want to get tipped like a waiter, go be a waiter. It's already bad enough that a 10$ sandwich gets marked up to damn near 25$ after all the feels, and then a functionary (soon to be replaced by robots) demands 25% for cold food thrown roughly on your doormat?

No. You are tipping to get your food quickly.
The amount a driver gets pops up on the screen and is either accepted or rejected. If the number is low, especially if you are like 5 miles away, it will keep getting rejected. It’s why I don’t over think it and just give an extra $2-3 just to ensure it won’t take forever. Plus it obviously means more to them than me so what’s a couple more bucks?

To the OP the driver is an idiot and doesn’t have to take the delivery.

No one likes the fees, but if it’s that big of a deal to where it’s going to affect how much a delivery driver gets then just go pick it up yourself.

My food has never been “cold” but I also make sure not to order anything more than a couple miles from my home.

No feeling quite like writing “$0” on that tip line in front of the worker at the checkout counter for takeout. I can feel their glare of disgust.

Tipping culture in this country is a scam that has to be stopped.

I do DoorDash on the side so I can offer my perspective here. And before anyone starts, yes I have a full time job Monday-Friday that pays decently well. But I do use DoorDash to supplement it for some extra spending or vacation money. I would say typically I do $100-$200/month for DoorDash.

I do DoorDash because any other supplemental job would be a pain. Any other supplemental job, they are going to want me to have certain availability. It's ironic as they'll want me to have that availability, but they don't necessarily have to schedule me.

DoorDash I can pick the evenings and hours that I want to do it. There's no boss breathing down my neck, and I'm very selective with the offers I choose. Plus you essentially have next to no interaction with anyone, so it's fairly relaxing.

As for how DoorDash drivers choose their rides, for me it has to be a $5 minimum tip for me to even consider it. Anything less isn't worth my time or the wear and tear on my car.

There's only been two times I have accepted a $2 tip, and that was when the delivery was literally 1 mile away from the fast food place. On one occasion, it was literally across the parking lot (customer was at a hotel). So I literally just walked across the parking lot, I didn't even drive over.

But outside of crazy scenarios like that, $5 is the minimum I'll even consider. I usually get the $20 two stop trips, which are pretty good as they are always right near each other. Try to trip somewhat well, especially if it's bad weather (that's always when demand goes up). If you try to tip less than $5, don't get mad when no one is accepting your order and you are waiting forever.

And for the record, I don't get it myself. I've never used DoorDash or Uber Eats myself. But I'll gladly make some money off people's laziness.

I wonder what all your BMI's are
