The only time I ever do delivery is when I’m out of town. I probably have not had food delivered to my house in at least 5 years.

Why? The markups and the delivery fee plus tip expectation.

As for how DoorDash drivers choose their rides, for me it has to be a $5 minimum tip for me to even consider it.
I always tip $5. Good to know it is considered sufficient.

Are tips shown to the driver immediately or after they close out the ticket?

I know for walmart plus they dont see til after delivery

I tip based on how much heavy shite i buy, not total price of order

So if i get a couple flats of water, gatorade, whatever then i will tip more than a $100 order that is just a few bags

If someone only tips $2 then they are too broke to have food delivered

You typed all of this just to show you're too poor to tip properly

Should never expect a tip.

DoorDash I can pick the evenings and hours that I want to do it. There's no boss breathing down my neck, and I'm very selective with the offers I choose. Plus you essentially have next to no interaction with anyone, so it's fairly relaxing.
You must not present well….

Eg, I am not tipping an Uber driver before he picks me up...I get to tip afterward...
Because an Uber driver isn't being paid a $2 base, he is getting paid by distance and know what that pay is up front just like you know how much you are paying up front. Your choice to tip is after the fact.

DD pays $2 base (at least in most markets) plus "tip" which is really a bid. You are free to give an actual tip if you have a good experience.

Some markets, like BR, are different. They know the clientele down there doesn't tip, so DD charges significantly higher delivery fees based on distance and then customers can tip after the fact.

Either way, you are paying, but maybe it makes some people feel better to pay a fee rather than a tip.

I'm still blown away how many people regularly pay 10-30% more to get crappy food delivered to them.

I vastly underestimated these services and thought they'd be dead a year or 2 after Covid.

I only doordash pickup to use credit card credits with doordash.
I'm guessing most dont realize its more expensive via doordash than the restaurant web site.

I just don't want these people spitting on my food if they are mad at the "tip".
