What do you do if your father has a heart attack and you’re on a plane? Or miles off the coast fishing? This idea that you need to tether yourself to a phone because something bad might happen is ridiculous. If someone calls your phone saying your dad has a heart attack going to change the outcome of the emergency?

So Kevin Hart and the Kelce clown are allowed but no phones? Make it make sense.

I am for outlawing all of it.

I love the fact that you can’t have phones at the masters.

The 18th green would look ridiculous with every single person filming

They aren't called fans at The Masters. The TV commentators will never use that term.

They also used to limit the coverage of the tournament big time

They still do.

If I remember correctly, Augusta National pays CBS and ESPN to air the tournament rounds, unlike the NFL that has their hand out and wants even more money and control over their product. That is why the commercials on the Masters are limited and some are more like corporate messages than traditional commercials. I think local stations still get a minute or two to throw on their usual Gordon Get It Done spots, or their Spencer Callahan spots where he catches a football, or in this case for the Masters he should sink a putt.

I think they take your phones or tell you to leave them off the property

Years ago, and probably still the same, the guards, if they see you with your phone, will tell you that the phone is heading up to the clubhouse area and you have a choice to let them take the phone there or you can go with it ( and presumably off the grounds)

No but it could change whether you ever get to see or speak to him alive again.

Absurd notion here. Responsible adults with families don’t go off the radar

They have banks of land line phones scattered throughout the course for patrons to sue.

This is the absurd notion.

You never fly? Or, go into areas with no cell service?

What's the point of going to The Masters if you can't even post pictures about how you're at The Masters

I’m not a cardiologist.

Life was better without cell phones.

This is just so the men can tell their wives there’s a no cell phone rule and be actually left alone for the day. The Masters are bros

I wasn't knocking you if it came off that way. Was just trying to show the two sides and say honestly neither is wrong unti ESPN tries to force it all into a bro-out revenue stream.

It's kinda like "book club" which is really just drinking wine and complaining. I don't hate it, I actually love it. It creates a venue to keep that stuff out of my mind.

Have a good friend who was at the masters w his dad, dad has a cardiac incident and there is a full suite of volunteer cardiologist who look after pops. Dad needs to go to hospital for observation and is ok. No charge from masters or hospital its taken care of.
Turns out masters have a full ER staff of volunteers to take care of medical issues for patrons, probably some the best care any where. As i understand it the docs and nurses who volunteer also get tickets to watch.

I was there that year at English Turn, people were putting their phones in various hiding spots around the entrance so they didn't have to turn their phones in... This was before smart phones were around

Still the policy as late as 2008. Thereafter, you couldnt bring it out for pics etc, but could at least have it with you.
