One of the most annoying commercials this bowl season is the lisping Dominos guy whining about fees the delivery apps charge. It's pretty transparent why Dominos doesn't want people to be able to have human food delivered to their homes.

But is it accurate? I thought the apps just charged a fee on top of the meal price. Do they actually cut in to the restaurants' profits? I know some restaurants don't cooperate w/ delivery apps, so I don't think any of them are being forced to use them.

Yes the delivery apps get a cut, most restaurants counter it by increasing their prices on the delivery service app and limiting the selections.

Bravo, Dominos. Yes, delivery apps charge too much to the customer and to the restaurant so good for them for calling them out on it. But…Dominos has delivery fees too.

That makes sense. I didn't think many restaurants would voluntarily give up a portion of their share to the apps unless they're really driving up volume.

delivery apps charge too much

They don't charge enough or pay enough... people think they should pay minimal amounts for getting their food delivered to their house... an extreme luxury. Just look at the viral videos from orders not moving from non tipping customers, it is because the drivers won't deliver the orders because there is not enough money in it for them.

THE classic delivery fee story

In the '80s pizza delivery and Domino's were pretty new to BR. I was going to LSU and ordered a pizza. It was something like $4.25. I wrote a check and waited for the delivery guy.

Guy shows up at my house and I hand him the check. He tells me there is a TEN CENT fee for checks. I don't have a dime on me so I ask him could you pay it? He says no.

So I look all over my house for a dime. I go to my dresser, my night table, kitchen drawers... All the while this guy is waiting on my porch for ten cents instead of moving on with his next delivery. I take the cushions off my couch and finally scrape together ten pennies to give him.

VERY cool story bros

They charge the restaurants and customers plenty. Not directing much of that money to the drivers is different issue, and it is an issue.

Apparently DoorDash takes 30% of the total. Or that's what the restaurants around here tell me.

I only pick up unless I'm drunk.

Domino's will charge you a delivery fee, and put on the box to remember to tip your driver because they don't pay for that.

In the past 2 months I've gotten a Surprise Free cheese pizza and another time the next day I got a "Delivery Insurance" email telling me they're sorry about taking too long and gave me a free medium pizza (I didn't realize it even took too long).

At least they make it interesting and make an effort to get the food delivered fast. The delivery apps are way too unreliable IMO. I've even had food never arrive before with no one to contact and hold accountable. Not fun when you're hungry.

I don’t tip any of the delivery app drivers. Their up charge from DoorDash, Waitr, Uber Eats is their issue not mine. Don’t like it don’t deliver for them.

The driver doesn't get any of that fee. It all goes to the platform.

Don't be a POS.
