Wonder how that would work for sports though.
Two separate schools. The same brothers that run De La Salle also are at St. Pauls.

Why? We aren’t catholic so no skin in the game. After lower school in Jefferson Parish, she picked DHS for reasons I stated above. MCA definitely was more popular, and one more reason she wanted a change. Was tired of the same people pre-k through 6th. Her best friends today, years later, she met at DHS and a few more from MCA. Why have people disliked it? Seems a lot of the professionals I work with sent their kids there if they couldn’t or wouldn’t pay for the independent schools.

I mean different strokes for different folks but in the city, I would send my girls to mc ghee, sacred heart and newman before Dominican. I would also consider country day and st martins in jeff parish before Dominican.

One of my friends from 8th grade never spoke to me again bc I picked Dominican
Even now I live in Baton Rouge - someone will ask me where I went and I’ll tell them - and they say ‘oh that snobby school?’
But I’ve met ppl who really respect it, too.

The lack of acknowledgement of ACB isn't surprising, unfortunately.
When Trump was inaugurated in 2016, instead of watching the pagentry, Dominican replayed a recording of Obama's inauguration from 2008 in all classrooms.
Everything woke turns to sh*t! Layering their liberalism on top of unfavorable demographics is not a winning combination.

Of course we are in a recession and the Catholic middle class in greater NOLA is being hit hard...
there's also controversy over Supreme Court justice Amy Coney Barrett, who went there, with debate over how the school should be honoring her.
Previous classes at Dominican had well over 200 girls
There's a continuing trend of Catholic schools closing all over the country:
75 more Catholic schools closing
The article cites three issues: the expense of schools, modern Catholics becoming more and more liberal (and thus opposing Catholic teaching and doctrine), and the loss of Nuns.
That last part really makes sense. So much of what Catholics institutions did.... especially schools and hospitals... relied on Nuns doing the grunt work. Nuns were educated and resourceful and they basically kept the wheels running. We talk about the loss of priests all the time, and not enough about how modern, liberated civilization is basically wiping Nuns out.

I guess if Dominican is down in enrollment... I guess Ursuline is the same? Ursuline and Mercy girls always had more personality.. Dominican girls always seemed uppity or shy.. I didn't waste time trying to figure that out...

I don’t know how long the Catholic schools in our town can make it….just seems inevitable they close. If they could combine the all girls and all boys schools and make it an elite sports school they could attract more students. $10k/yr just seems too little to run the school right and too expensive for parents at the same time. Who knows?

McGhee or Newman are great - but not if you’re looking for a Catholic education.
Same for St Martin’s and Country Day

Why were they watching any inauguration?
Is that something they do in schools these days?

Thank you! I thought I was going crazy. My mother went to Dominican and she occasionally would point it out when we passed by.
I Googled it to see its now (and apparently has been for the past 50+ years ??) located on Walmsley behind the seminary.

This coupled with crime and a large number of families leaving Orleans Parish hasn’t helped matters either.
why anyone would intentionally raise children in New Orleans is beyond me.

Not even proof. Dominican caught a lot of shite for being proud of ACB when she was confirmed. The reddit mob was mad that Dominican was promoting it all over social media.
Link to their website promoting it.
The Trump/Obama thing doesn't even logistically make sense. Why would they show that in every room?

Those schools are also substantially more $. Not everyone can afford it.

Okay but most don’t have that kind of money

That effort to acknowledge ACB was initiated by alumnae, not the school. Administration went along begrudgingly after they saw the signs on former students' lawns. My cousins were on the unsanctioned alumnae committee that printed the signs.
