No...
My ex wife jacked me in the face, scratched me up, pushed me. I walked away. Anger is no excuse. Just walk away.

No. If it has gotten to that point you have already stayed in the relationship too long.
This.
Toward the end, during an argument, my ex took a big swing at me. When I blocked it, her forearm got hurt and she left the room. I did not swing back, but I knew it was over. I packed up that weekend.
We ended up better friends/co-parents living in separate homes.

Never hit a lady!
But if a woman crosses that line and attacks you she is no longer a lady and has engaged into a fight with you and it is now ok to strike her in an act of self defense.
But the only enough force to protect yourself and stop the attack.

Hypothetical. I am with my family, eating a Grand Slam, at Denny's. 6 big, loud obnoxious women waddle in and sit down. They are abusive to the waitress and order stupid stuff like Endless water w/ lemon, Grand Slams with extra sausage and bacon, extra sides of hash browns and grits, and a full desert table. Once they are through gorging, they tell the waitress that they did not enjoy it very much and do not want to pay. The waitress gets the manager who tells them that they ate every scrap of food in the restaurant and they will pay for it. They hear this as "Mike Brown and Trayvon deserved that shite" so they commence to wrecking the restaurant. They turn my table over, knocking the wind out of my daughter. They show no remorse and no signs of stopping. Does the "Never touch a woman" crowd just sit there? Of the three never touch a woman threads a week, this may be my favorite.
How did this end? Hypothetically, of course.

Personally, I'd never hit a woman unless I thought my life was in actual danger. I'd tackle her and take her to the ground or wrap her up.
That being said, I also believe men and women are equal, so technically I have no issue with a guy responding in kind to a woman's physical violence. Their body, their choice.

If you are in physical danger with a knife or gun or a big black dildo, you can take her out
This.
Or another, I get to decide if my wife gets her arse kicked. If a loved one is being pummeled by women, it's ok to hit those women to get your family out.
I've told my French Quarter story here before. It is a wonderful holiday tale of women being women acting like men, and being shocked when they get treated like a man.
I may share it later. I wish someone could find it and link it. Its. a TLDR.

From a female perspective, I've always been of the thought process that if I'm willing to put my hands on anyone (man or woman) then I'm taking the risk of getting hit back. So unless I'm truly being physically threatened, I'm not putting my hands on anyone.
It's never ok for a man or woman to hit their SO, unless they're physically being threatened.

What do you tell a woman with 2 black eyes?
Nothing. You already had to tell her twice

The lesson here is to not eat at Denny's.
