As someone that has lived in East Tennessee their whole life this really sucks. Dolly was our crown jewel. We really took a lot of pride in having her be one of us. This hits hard.

@chicken - I don’t post often, if at all, but whoever is downvoting EVERY SINGLE POST in this thread should be banned. Through 12 pages of posts, not one person has a negative thing to say about this lady, yet these two people have downvoted every post. Please get rid of this trash on this board. In theory, your up vote/down vote is to be applauded, but being a constant piece of shite should not be rewarded.

I’m not even a fan necessarily. but she was super hot, for basically her entire life, and super awesome at singing and had complimentary musicianship that made her a grade A undeniable star…coupled with other admirable things she was associated with, and even the profit seeking projects like Dollywood….that’s a lot of lost energy in one person

She was an icon and a national treasure. RIP.
My Dolly story:
Early 90's a group of us are staying at Caesars in Lake Tahoe for a bachelor party and after closing the hotel nightclub and then taking a beating at the tables we headed up to our suite and continued the party. Around 3 am there's a knock at the door and one of the guys answers it. There's a pissed off lady yelling "have fun but don't make me call security!" and then she stormed off. The guy who answered the door didn't recognize it was Dolly right away as she apparently wasn't wearing one of her wigs. It was confirmed the next day by hotel staff that it was Dolly and she was perfoming in Caesars that weekend and was booked in the suite next to ours. I thought it was cool that she decided to address the noise herself rather than report us. RIP to a legend.

Damn. Just damn. A true national treasure. And pretty young for a wealthy celebrity, all things considered.
Our 16 year old daughter is pretty upset over Dolly's passing. It is astonishing how Dolly had connected with girls her age...a connection that spans about 4-5 generations. From what I have seen among her friends since the news was reported I think this will be akin to Elvis passing to people my age. A local BBQ joint is having a memorial and day of remembrance Saturday and their facebook page is BLOWN up with young people saying they will be there. Pretty touching knowing that people her age connected with Dolly Parton to that extent.

I fully understand she was 80 years old, but I’m still in shock about Dolly passing.
Just an absolute American icon and a larger than life figure. The rare legitimately clean and good celebrity. My mom always had us watching 9 to 5 and Best Little Whorehouse growing up.
