I had a bi-monthly subscription DSC. When I first started it, they were just like the Gillette Mach series, but way cheaper. Now it's a completely different design of razor that sucks arse. I cancelled my subscription, and I'm looking for what the OT uses?

For your troubles

The consensus answer to every single one of these threads is

Double Edged Safety Razor and variety pack of blades to figure out which one works best for you.

Long handle Merkur and Astra blades for me. Feather blades tear my face up. Though I opened a pack of Dorco blades recently, and I think those work better for me than the Astra.

DE Safety razor.

Only way to go. Made the change about a year ago. Best shave ive ever had everytime i use it. Never get cut and very little razorburn. Plus blades are dirt cheap.

The fact that Gillette and other brands made people start paying out the arse for SEVEN BLADE RAZORS and such is a joke.

Switch to safety razor and never look back

How many shaves you get with the safety razors? I shave my head 2-3 times a week along with my beard/neck line.

Glad I am not alone.

I had been using them for almost 10 years. It was such a great and easy convenience. Out of nowhere they changes the blades suck arse.

I switched to a recurring shipment on Amazon of Gillette Pro Glide.

Currently I use a Feather DE safety razor I was given as a gift. The prep to shave is a bit longer than with a cartridge razor, as is the shaving process since you have to take your time to get a good shave. However, it is a SIGNIFICANTLY more comfortable shave than with a cartridge razor. The multi-blade razors "pull" your hair while you are shaving. And more blades = more discomfort. They will still give you a close shave. But you don't realize how much they pull until you use a DE blade.

When I did use cartridge blades I used the Schick Hydro 3. Actually, to save costs I used the generic Hydro 3 blades you could buy for cheaper at Walmart, Target. Same exact blade as the Schick brand name. Just $4-$7 cheaper per box. They also were made to fit a Mach 3 handle. The best thing about the Schick Hydro blades is they were very well lubricated. So much so that the first few shaves with a new cartridge were kind of "goopy". Still, of all the cartridge blades I used it was the most comfortable with the closest shave. If I ever had to go back to a cartridge blade that would be it.

In NO circumstances would I ever use a five blade razor. That is NOTHING but marketing overkill, and they provide a terribly uncomfortable shave. 3 blades are really too many as well. But at least they aren't five blades. I tried Harry's once and found them to be the most uncomfortable razor I've every used in my entire life. After 4 shaves I was done!

Just because you have a beard doesn't mean it doesn't need to be touched up. If I didn't shave around the edges, I would have a patch of hair that connects from my eye lids to my toes.

That's my problem, I'm running low on the good razors, and only have the crap razors that DSC switched to. Those things are like shaving with a license plate. I have trouble shaving under my nose with a multi-blade razor as is, and there's not chance with those things. The safety razors look like a pretty big expense as far as handles. Any recommendations on what handle to start with for a test drive? Or what website do you use? Amazon?

+1 Triple blade with the built-in gel strip.

Every now and then I get a shite cartridge which lasts only a couple of days, but for the most part they retain their sharpness for weeks.

Definitely a different boat than I am. I use mine to shave my neckbeard and back of my neck. So I'm still on the same pack of 100 that I bought 10 years ago.

But blades are extremely cheap (typically between $0.05 to $0.10 a piece). So you could change the blade every single shave and still easily come out ahead.
