Yes, as well as random testing per DOT/FAA Regs and Guidelines.

Yes, lost a couple meh hires as a result. They seemed unmotivated and unwilling to do real labor the job required…not sure why.

When I started it was a hair sample drug test. Today it’s just a piss test.

I get tested monthly. Part of my job is to be a DEA licensed distributor/handler for Pharmaceuticals. Never know when it's coming. They still keep it random.

Mine does. I was told that our insurance mandates it so the company has no say so on it.

Drug test for new employees but none scheduled during employment. However, if you’re injured on the job and want workers comp, gotta have clean piss.

That is an easy thing to say as an employee. If you are the CEO/COO or even owner operator, you and your company carry the liability risk. The people saying it’s no big deal are all middle managers and below, and certainly not insurers or risk management.

Whether haul trash, or perform heart surgery - any task performed at a less than ideal level because of a drug using employee could carry significant liability.

Yes my company is a Fortune 100 and we test for drug use with the exception of Marijuana. Even though it is illegal in our state, many of our sites are in pot friendly states. So to be fair, they do not test for the weed here.
We are an aviation business with contracts to civilian and military customers so the FAA plays a big part.

Yes. We cannot have weedheads running around causing problems. Bad things could happen, like fires and other bad accidents.

Are you in a state where weeds legal?

I don’t know why they can’t run a drug test and ignore THC if they do choose. Cocaine and meth? Not so much. Opiates without a prescription? Not so much.

No, not at time of hire or randoms. When I first began interviewing , I researched the pre-employment qualifications and found a Reddit thread that discussed my company. The original CEO was a well known pot smoker and he refused to test. He sold the company in 2013 but his legacy continues.

It’s only to cover their arse. If people weren’t so quick to sue for their own accidents it wouldn’t be necessary for everyone.

Yes. 22 ish years ago. I was the 4 employee hired. We are up to 18 now, and I was the last one to have been tested prior to starting.

Fun facts:

A few years later, the owner supplied all of the drugs on a trip to Cabo.

The guy that worked for the testing lab that delivered my results….I knew him at LSU and I can tell you that neither one of us would have passed a test back then.

Does your company still drug test new hires?

I'm guessing yes. We used to have random drug tests.
There was nothing "random" about them.

I someone came to work three sheets to the wind it would suddenly be random drug test time.

Now I don't think they drug test anyone thats already employed.

The old "cooks drug test"

Do you smoke?

Yes - (then you can bum cigs from them)

No - they don't do anything

What? - they smoke weed.

Same at my company

I don't even use recreational drugs and think the idea is antiquated AF
