What gets me is women who speak in "sing-song," like they're living in a goddamn Disney musical.

I absolutely loathe the unnecessary uptick that now seems to have become popular when people speak. Especially when one is listing things or just ending a statement. What is the deal with this idiotic habit people have fallen into? And how can those fools be saved?

Welcome to 20 plus years ago?

For me it’s the dropping of the medial t, as in kitten or important. Ugh. It used to be more common in the UK, but it’s all around us now.

And also, vocal fry.

Yeah...bonus points if they end a sentence like they're asking a question when they're not.

I saw Paris Hilton on tv the other day. She's gone from a sexy, mousey voice to a vocal fry.

Ilan Omar has the worst voice.
Every sentence ends in a vocal uptake.

Right there with you. Also, adding a syllable at the end of a word, usually an uh type sound. I know-uh! What are you doing-uh?

ETA: also irrationally annoyed with the misuse of the word literally.

Post a video so I know what the hell you're talking about.

Do you ever watch TV? I don't know many people who do it in real life, but it's all over TV. Along with beginning statements with "So..."

You mean like when Elvira would say, "Up!!! All night."?

That was Rhonda Shear, baw. Similar attributes, though.

Berenstien/Berenstain. Same thing...

Seriously though, I had to go to google. I would have sworn that was Elvira.

You mean talking like this? Where everything has a question mark at the end of it? With an upward inflection? At the end of every sentence?

This is what I'm talking about.

Saw a New Zealand realtor on house hunters doing this at the end of every other sentence. It’s like an up chirp. It didn’t bother me but it was definitely noticeable.

Valley girl shite. It's particularly annoying when spoken by "journalists." I hear it on NPR a lot, especially from the young female reporters. They sound like morons.

I hate conference calls so much now. Every freaking woman on these calls talk with uptick and vocal fry. So off-putting. I don't even respond to them if they ask me something.

And what's the deal with all this uptalk?

I mean could you just say what you need to say and it not sound like you were just taking off on a roller coaster?
