Are the "leagues" tryout mandated, or is it up to each "club"?

There are invite only leagues, try-out leagues, and pay to play leagues.

My kids team is invite only. We have scouts at various games looking for raw 5 tool talent and invite them to a mini-tryout.

Tryouts or not mandated. There is no one to mandate tryouts. They are not done by parishes, cities, or counties. Most teams have open tryouts. Some teams just market their tryouts for one or two additional players.

They recruit you straight out of tee ball.

Curious how this all works...paid coaches that move with the players, or do coaches only have a certain age group (then the kids move on to another coach)?

I think it’s tryouts. My teeball team has set a record for home runs so far this year so I expect everyone to be getting calls soon to try out for travel leagues. My son doesn’t know what a single is.

The dads try out.

By try out, they see who can wear the most neon green.

If you pay $2,500 for your 8 year old to play travel ball, he's guaranteed a college baseball scholarship.

Only requirement is that you agree to video your son's teeball in the park homeruns, in which there are at least 4 errors on the play, and post them to Facebook.

My 6 year old is batting .857 and has hit 34 homeruns, all of which went over 400 feet. I've had scouts from a dozen major league teams watch him play recently. They are willing to sign once they cut through some red tape on child labor laws.

Are there birth year teams, then A, B, and C teams for example inside that year?
