Think about how much of your life is spent in a dormant 'unconscious' state. Years over the course of a lifetime. Does this ever seem odd that we are required to shut down each day for a period of time?

Sleep is so awesome. Nothing better than a long day of fishing and then a shower and nap

Yes, but it's more of a control thing for me. Not often, but some nights it's hard to give in if I think about it too much.

If we didn't sleep we'd work more.

Yes, i have found it odd. I find it very disproportionate that we sleep so much. It would make more since if we slept every 3rd night.

Tried a polyphasic sleep cycle? May be able to cut down on hours.

A mid day nap should be mandatory for everyone.

A journalist once asked the great racing driver Tazio Nuvolari if he expected to die in a race car. Nuvolari said probably so. The journalist than asked how he had the courage to get into a race car.

Nuvolari then asked the journalist if he expected to die in bed, and the journalist said yes. Nuvolari asked "Then how do you find the courage to go to sleep at night"?

Wait, what was the question?

I used to think about this a lot. I thought it was a waste of time, but when you try going for days without it you go sorta nuts.
