Spot on. I live in a downtown area and can walk to hiking trails on Monte Sano from my house. All the areas I listed are a 5 minute drive from hiking areas.

Tech is around Austin.
There is no snowboarding there.
Maybe a little in mountains in way west Texas? But, would definitely be shitty and you'd be going to Denver or new Mexico just as easy.
I'm kinda shocked a professional person can't figure this out.

Sure, Texas has tons of natural beauty. But it’s so far away from the populated areas that you may as well still be in California.
Some others tossed in the hill country, and yeah it’s cute....but It doesn’t compare to the states further west.

Move to Austin. Hill Country to the West, brush country to the South (my favorite) and plenty of tech jobs.

Austin or San Antonio in the hill country are the 2 major cities with natural beauty. Marfa/Alpine/Ft Davis are at 5000' altitude but are very small towns although Marfa is like a mini Santa Fe, NM art scene wise. The mountains around here are like Arizona mountains since the area is part of the Chihuahuan Desert. With all that, you aren't going to find California level beauty in Texas.

However, if youre set up in California and make a comfortable living...frick ever thinking about moving to Texas....or any other state for that matter. Coastal California > anywhere. Do yourself a favor and head up to Encinitas today for lunch and grab a carne asada burrito and fries from juanitas taco shop. Sit outside in that mid 70s weather, and let the fact that you got out of the south wash over you.
