I'd post a view from my house, but some creep on here would do some internet shite and soon enough I'd be looking at a picture of me taking the picture.

Dallas has a bunch of lakes around it, but it's not a particularly pretty place. Houston is a dump topographically, just a great place to live to make money. Austin and San Antonio are close to Hill Country and some pretty areas, but nothing here is close to what Cali is. Beaches here are ugly, mountains are WAY the frick far away and not big and not plentiful. The Hill Country is kind of pretty, I guess, but not great. The lakes in the Hill Country are pretty. I would rather live in San Antonio than Austin cost of living wise and infrastructure wise. Austin traffic is frickawful. This coming from a guy living in Houston.

If you want outdoorsy shite, you'll need to find other tech hub areas.

Texas has a lot of beauty. Come and experience it. Leave the liberalism at home.

It doesn't compare to California or the rocky mountain states or the Appalachian states for scenery. The hill country is overrated and hot as hell in the summer.

Growing up in WA and having lived in TX for the past 7-8 years, if outdoor adventure is your thing, you’ll be disappointed. There isn’t hiking/backpacking like what you can experience within a few hours of your house. The only winter sports you get are crammed into the week you invade CO and Tahoe and a little NM along with the rest of the fine folks of TX. Hill country is pretty and there are some cool spots. It’s just not Rocky Mountain West. Hunting is expensive but pretty sure you can kill a giraffe if you know the right rancher and that’s your thing. I moved back to the northwest. Ive skiid more times this season than I have the previous 7 years combined. I don’t miss Texas at the moment.

Palo Duro, Big Bend, Guadalupes, Ruidoso (NM), and Angel Fire/Taos (NM) are all great but 8+ hours from Austin.

If you are looking for tech + natural beauty check out Boise (pronounced Boy-See). ID is the last under the radar state in the Union.

I mean yeah, Texas has some beautiful scenery, but not really in the big cities like Houston or Dallas.

No, it’s nowhere near as pretty as California. It’s a shame California is how it is, because it really is probably the most naturally beautiful state.

It’s like that way out in West Texas. Not that many people live out there. Most of the population lives in the eastern half of the state where there is a lot of greenery.

By the way, Tremors was filmed in California.

I've been here three times, beats the shite out of most places I've seen:

Tucked away in Texas' historic Big Bend between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend State Park lies Lajitas Resort, the perfect setting for your away-from-it-all adventure. Our 27,000 acre Texas resort is famous for its solitude, natural beauty and rugged desert environment. The resort's unique destination is rich in Old West history.
The resort features our world class 18 hole golf course, Lajitas Texas Golf. "Black Jack’s Crossing", designed by PGA Hall of Fame golfer, Lanny Wadkins.

We also offer our 5 Stand Sporting Clay Shoot, Cowboy Action shoot, Equestrian Center for family horseback rides, and many other Lajitas Texas activities designed to keep your family as busy as it wants to be.

Looking at the activities that you like, the biggest issue you will have in Texas is the lack of public land. It is nothing like the west with tons of BLM and Forest Service lands.

While California has a wide array of topography and you can swim in the ocean in the morning and ski in the mountains that evening, their politics, traffic, cost of living, and rude people make it a no go on my list.

I'd take Texas all day over Cali. I like wide open spaces and solitude; couldn't live in Houston, Dallas, Austin, or SA though just too big for me. Besides that Cali doesn't have Bucee's

there isn't very much public land in Texas so it's a no from me dawg

ETA: not a no on beauty, a no to moving there. I'm poor and recreate on national forests.
