Does pregnancy really cause uncontrollable gas or do women just use it as an excuse?

I was visiting my parents last night for an early Christmas because my brother, my sister-in-law, and their kids are in town. Well anyway, we were playing a board game and my pregnant sister-in-law farted like 5 different times and she said it was because she’s pregnant. It was kind of annoying.

Is this really true or is it just an excuse to let it fly and not care? Is it the child pushing on the woman’s insides that causes this?

The buildup of gas happens whether you are pregnant or not. However, you may discover more challenges with gas once you discover you are pregnant. One of the key contributing factors to experiencing more gas during pregnancy is the increased levels of progesterone. Progesterone is a hormone that causes the muscles throughout your body to relax.

quote:

Subsequently, your intestinal muscles relax more, which causes your digestion to slow down. The transient time through the intestine can increase by 30%. This allows gas to build up easier and creates bloating, burping and of course flatulence. Gas during pregnancy can also increase later in pregnancy when the enlarging uterus places pressure on your abdominal cavity.

This pressure can also slow digestion allowing gas to build up.

Unfortunately, the progesterone induced muscle relaxation makes it harder to control the release of gas.

Just as I thought, it's an excuse.

Nurse you silently pass gass around your husband and laugh about it, don’t you?

My wife’s been sleeping with other men and she said it’s because she’s pregnant so I’m sure farting in public is because of it too.

She was laughing devilishly inside.

Be thankful you don't live with her. She must really let loose at home.

Yeah probably so. It wasn’t even silent ones last night. It was noisy ones, and she would just say “sorry” each time it happened.

Increased progesterone during pregnancy. Progesterone relaxes smooth muscle and causes slower GI transit time causing more gas build up. Hence the bloating, farting, burping etc.

There's two kind of people in the world. Those that fart and those that lie.

I mean wasn’t extremely annoyed. Just a little bit. Me and my siblings do that around each other all the time. I guess I just wasn’t expecting that from her. Lol

You should have leaned in and whispered "That's my fetish." That would have made her stop.
