Does it alarm you how quickly society can delve into anarchy?

Watching all this rioting and whatnot every other week it seems, does it surprise and possibly frighten you how quickly the most powerful (and arguably the most civilized) nation on Earth can succumb to such uncivilized behavior?
Not only that, but the fact that it can be triggered by such a false pretense? That even when facts illuminate the situation it doesn't even matter.
You see a situation like Katrina and think, well I guess it takes something of that magnitude to push society back into the stone age for a brief period of time before order is restored. But that seems to not be the case. A simple news story apparently is all it takes to expose people as the animals they are.
Are we still that primal that we are constantly teetering on the edge of chaos and can be pushed over with the slightest nudge?

It's only "anarchy" in those places where the local government is too weak to stop it.

It's only a small percentage of the population and they are just looking for an excuse to act like animals. It isn't a breakdown of our society but rather the product of our society that has produced these people. Government aid may have started with a legitimate purpose but it has turned into a way for political parties to buy votes and created a class of people who view it as a livelihood. Until that changes there will always be that segment of society who is on the edge of chaos.

Anarchy may be a strong word, but surely in many of these cases the rule of law is thrown out. People are allowed to act lawless. Baltimore was a good example when the fricking mayor said let them riot.

I'm actually pretty proud of the lower half of our state in that regard. I can't remember anything getting too out of control like in other cities. Sure Katrina was a little wild, but that was due to lack of leadership. It was all good a few weeks later
