Successful parenting goes much much further than vehicle purchases( value of money) or purposely stacking cards.

You have scholarship offers from multiple schools already? We have one but haven’t yet gotten word back from others.

An high school diploma has about as much worth as my toilet paper. Nowadays most of them are given away just so they can get you out the door ASAP.

No, my kid doesn’t need a 3rd new car just because he’s graduating.

big gifts such as a new car for graduating?

I got one. (not new but wheels!!) It turned tragic. My dad had fixed up a BMW motorcycle and handed me down his ancient Morris Minor for graduation. Two weeks later someone ran him off Prien Lake Rd L.C. and he never flew after that. Retired.

My dad bought me a 1996 Honda Civic the fall of my senior year in 2002.

Drove that badboy until 2014.

Clearly shows that the ones you consider poor are smarter than you...

Only a dumbass would buy a brand new car, period. Only a bigger dumbass would buy a brand new car for a teen. Unless we're talking super rich where you're buying Ferraris and shite...then maybe so. The richest dude on the OT doesn't own a Ferrari IRL and couldn't without investing a chunk of their life savings.

shite, us buying our 16 yo a car was as much about us as it was him. No more driving him to everything. He can tote his little brother around too. We bought him a new car because we could easily afford it and we expect his brother to use it while he is away at college.
If you raise a good, respectful, appreciative kid they are that way whether you buy them a 10 speed or a new Porsche.

My son did not have a car for most of high school, so he got a combo 18th birthday /graduation present as a car to start his senior year. Yes a new car,but a reasonable one. He graduated first in his class with scholarship offers. We decided to by a new car so it would last through college years and grad school. He is now an L1 and still rolling

Yes, it absolutely does. As long as the graduate can pay for the car why shouldn't he or she get one for themselves?

frick no
unless their arse got a full ride and paying a portion of it.

I got a new car for graduation, but I paid 10k of it. We couldn't find a decent used car for 6 months (parents were picky...had to be an accord)

I'll buy my kids vehicles when they turn 16 so they won't need another one already for graduation. Whether it's new or used probably depends on what they want.
