I don't like melatonin. I find that Valerian Root works much better and it is a bit safer.

There is a reason. Lack of sleep. That's what melatonin remedies for most people.

1. Melatonin is safe and effective (not effective for everyone) and can be used long term in any age group.
2. Most of the “research” you will find is funded by big pharma trying to get people to stop using over the counter meds. Melatonin is disrupting a billion dollar prescription sedative-hypnotic drug cash cow for big pharma.
3. Very few people should “need” sleep meds over a long period of time.
4. Most people need better sleep hygiene, better nutrition, and better exercise.
5. Benadryl can cause cognitive dulling when used long term. I would avoid it long term.

So him. His wife, and all kids suffer from lack of sleep?
Nah

You didn't mention anything about him and his wife in the post that I responded to. Both my kid and I suffer from being able to goto sleep and staying asleep. She's an adult now and gets trazodone from her doctor. But, her pediatrician is the one that recommended melatonin for her. So, that's a pretty good reason if you ask me.

I have taken Melatonin almost every night for nearly 12 years. It has been a miracle drug for me and falling asleep every night, I have read articles saying that its borderline abuse and its probably permanently screwed up my ability to naturally sleep but I dont care. For years I would lay awake in bed trying to fall asleep staying up until 2 am fairly regularly. I tried Ambien for like a month but I slept walked and did other crazy shite, prescription sleep pills are not something to trifle with.

I used to take it regularly at 5 mg and then upped to 10mg for a while. Probably did that for a year.

I started having noticeable memory issues.

I stopped talking it and within a short amount of time, the memory issues stopped.

I don’t take it anymore.

That's interesting. I've had memory issues for a while, but I've always attributed it to my days of partying so much and taking a bunch of shite that I shouldn't have. I'm gonna keep an eye on it. Thanks for posting that.

Are your memory issues short term or long term? I have problems with my memory too but I dont know if it is linked to melatonin abuse or just me being a fricking idiot. I do know that when I take breaks from smoking weed my memory becomes a lot better.

ZQuil works better than anything else I’ve tried.
Fall asleep fast and wake up not feeling groggy.

My superpower is the ability to fall asleep in under 2 min.

3mg to 6 mg to sleep. Works like a charm.
I can be reading or watching tv and absolutely feel that woosh feeling of "frick i'm sleepy" in about 30 minutes.
I sometimes don't take it on weekends and holidays just to make sure I don't need it.

I take it a few times per week. It takes about 60-90 minutes to work for me but it knocks me out. Gives me weird arse dreams though.

Thankfully I've never needed help to sleep. As long as I don't hear the people fricking behind my wall I'm out like a light within 10-15 mins of hitting the pillow. Maybe less.

Occasionally I just have bad nights, but who doesn't? I've never taken sleep aid of any kind. Unless you count coming back from the bar hammered.

What I take to fall to sleep is being awake for about 19 hours or so. I am up by 5:15 and I can't recall the last time I wasn't awake at 1am.

It is harmless to give to kids. The only downside is over time of continuous use their body wont produce the natural melatonin at the same levels it otherwise would have. Sleeping issues / no sleeping issues has no bearing on if its good for them or not. dumbass

They were a mix of both. I would have a lot of trouble with names and especially people I had just met.
I didn’t readily recall recent events.

Things are better now.
Could just be my reaction to melatonin.
Seems many others don’t have these reactions
