omeone should be trying to get Amazon to take it and use it as a fulfillment center and "storefront."

I truly believe that in 5-10 years, a fair amount of abandoned mall space will be just that. But Amazon has a lot larger markets to work through before it comes to Baton Rouge.

you should see the mall in slidell. talk about a ghost town.

Yeah but there is something cool about walking around a deserted mall. The eeriness of being alone in a place that shouldn't be lonely. A forlorn remnant of a time gone by.

Occasionally driving bu on Florida blvd, seems like there are quite a few big box stores outside the mall.

The idea that the MoL is depreciating in any way seems to be one of those odd persistent myths on this board.

The quality of shops and the profits being generated aren't decreasing. But the quality of people walking around in it are far worse than they were 10 years ago

No, Cortana's problem isn't the mall itself, it's the location, and there's no turning that around.

West Oaks is in an area similar to Cortana.

Not really.

Northwest Mall at 610&290 is similar.

Knock it down and replace it with some kind of distribution center. Keep the outparcels.

Please explain. Last time I was in the MoL it had depreciated significantly.

It would make an awesome venue for a real life version of The Running Man.

The company that owns it bought it for really cheap. Because it is still bringing in money for them its not a priority property for them right now. More places might drop out, but as long as there are vendors in there still paying to rent space, it will not close.. Isn't there some type of college in there? It might get to the point where that and a few food places are the only places in there, but I would say it doesn't completely shut down this year.

I have been at the MallofLA at least once a month, every month, for the last 15 years. Other than a few of my favorite stores and my daughdaughter's favorite stores, nothing has changed with the quality of stores, merchandise, and the quality of shoppers. There has always been 10-15% of the less-than-favorables that frequent the mall.

Turn it into an all in one retirement community. Use the big dept stores as apartments, smaller stores as duplex type housing. Bring in a couple of pharmacies, medical center, and the Piccadilly will carry on with epic earnings. Already have indoor walking areas and could add a putt putt for the old OT Ballers. Hell the pharmacies alone would float the entire place with all the drugs they'd be slinging.

It's tough to be profitable when the hoodrat trash surrounding the mall hasn't purchased anything in a decade. Stolen items don't pay the bills for retailers.

Losing 3 anchors in less than a year will likely be the final blow. I was afraid losing the chick-fil-a would trigger a death spiral, and I was right.

Didn't someone get shot there like 3 years ago? Weren't there a few of those flash mob fights as well? The last tiime I went anywhere near the mall There were herds of Trayvons.

The hood is basically right there on Siegen and Perkins with those crappy apartments and the neighborhoods behind that are all sketchy. there was a shooting right there on Perkins last month. Where do you think all these folks go in their free time?
