West Oaks is in an area similar to Cortana. They added a top notch movie theater, two new anchors, and a bar or two.

They can turn it around if they really want to.
You can't turn Cortana around unless you can move it away from Florida boulevard and add it to Mall of La or some place in St. George.
Cortana is dying because it's in a shitty part of town.

This is a strange video memorializing Cortana. Anyone know this nerd/db? Good old school commercials in here though. cortana tribute

Exactly, even the "people" that live around there now won't go unless they are there to shoplift.
Tara, Goodwood, and Broadmoor could easily use the mall, but they quit catering to that demographic years ago. Even the Super Walmart next door is sketchy.

Fact.... the area is depressing as hell.... 25 years ago it was the most thriving part of BR....

I've seen malls survive with less.
Yea the mall in Hammond (before they basically demo'ed everything but the anchors and made it an open air shopping center) survived with like 5-ish stores (one of which was a comic book shop
Although it's location wasn't nearly as shitty as Cortana.

A top notch movie theater located in Cortana Mall would quickly turned into the Broadmoor Theater in its later years.

Those abandoned restaurants/buildings around the perimeter are the worst.

I hope Dillard's clearance finds a new home!
I invite them to come to Juban Crossing. They can take Kohls old building.
ETA: Have any of you been to the MoL lately? Last time I was there I felt like I was in a Third World country. Thank God for Juban Crossing.

Ehhh that's a bit of a stretch. The Alief area around West Oaks is no River Oaks to be sure, but it's not terrible either. And it's easily accessible from Katy via the Westpark.
Cortana is in the hood and airline is not the same as westpark.

There were plans for a massive renovation of that mall that came out about a year ago, but I no longer see them on the website for the mall.

My bet is that new businesses that have nothing to do with the mall begin to open in the spaces that used to be stores
While I greatly enjoy no sales tax (I declare it on my return, I promise), someone should be trying to get Amazon to take it and use it as a fulfillment center and "storefront."

The idea that the MoL is depreciating in any way seems to be one of those odd persistent myths on this board.
