Yes, I have one on the way home and one before dinner. Two every night and I see nothing wrong with it.

This is very popular. It's why C stores have chilled tall boys in open iceboxes right next to the cash register and the clerk has the perfect sized brown paper bags for them on the ready.

A friend of mine’s dad had his center console converted into a mini ice chest. He had road beers 24/7.

Its not? I realize it might not be as common today as it used to be, but have you ever been in line at the Ferry when the plants let out? The line goes.. I'd say sometimes there is a line almost a half mile long. And you will either be behind someone having a drink in their truck or see 2 or 3 dudes shooting the shite while waiting having a drink.

The city councilman who is not the mayor where I live, used to ride around his district every day in the early evening. Beer between his legs and would stop to talk to people and drink the whole time. When I was in school, in the 90s there was a bus driver who had a red igloo ice chest every day.

He would drink those little ponies.. It wasn't anything that was a secret either. Thinking about it, it is funny as to how acceptable it was. Parents didn't care because he had been doing it since they were kids.

Then you have your functioning alcoholics. As soon as the work day is over, they get in their truck, pull one out of their ice chest and crack it before they even start their vehicles.

Yes. Likewise for long distance car travel - by no means should you pound several beers, but nothing dulls the monotony of I-70 across Kansas and E CO like a tallboy and a quick puff.

That’s called alcoholism.

See, this is the reason for my starting this thread. I had no idea. It has literally never crossed my mind except for when I was a young idiot in high school and college looking for/going to a party. I figured all the semi successful adults had left stuff like this behind.

There are only 18 people who work in our shop and at least two of them pop road beers every afternoon

But then again...one beer...?

Not anymore but back in the very early 80's there was a store just up the road from where I worked that had Budweiser longnecks in tubs of ice for 50 cents a piece. It was pretty much every day I would grab a couple to slam down on the way home

I only do this in two instances:

1. After running in the evening. I figure if I can plow through 3-7 miles in the heat of a July evening in Alabama, I deserve a beer on the way home.

2. After a long day on the river or lake.

In either case, it's only one.

This thread fully explains why Louisiana has the 3rd highest auto insurance rates in the US.

In all seriousness, it is a trashy, low rent thing to do.

My metabolism is so different on the water and in the sun. I can pound the beer and barely maintain a buzz. But at night inside if I drink 6 beers I'm on the verge of getting bombed.

It got me to thinking is this a normal thing? I'm all against drunk driving, but a road beer after work before getting to the house would hit the spot some days while sitting in traffic. Most days, I can wait until I'm home. But if I get held up over a wreck after a particularly shitty day at work, I see no issue with popping open a cold one. I'm not getting drunk off one beer.

This is incredibly popular and normal in the South for plant/refinery workers with sizable commutes.

This is probably a big contributing factor. FWIW I do not drink and drive.

If you can't wait until you get home to have a drink then you're an alcoholic or on your way to becoming one

So an illegal action is okay. So lets welcome the border jumpers, the pedos, rapists, shoplifters, meth users, etc.... I mean if we can break a law...why not break all of them. Hell I should just post porn on this thread.

Give me a break....IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A REASON. If you cant wait to drive home to get a drink because you had a bad day......you are an alcoholic puss.
