In college, I worked at baton rouge lumber company. I guess they didn't have much for me to do the first few days. Eventually I was a helper and would ride on the delivery trucks to help with offloading or help in the yard loading the forklifts etc.
Anyway on this first few days that had me moving rebar from one pile to another - geez.

Got an admin job at a place called cyberdyne. First day was I think back in '97. Everyone kept talking about this guy who was making the company lose profits. Don Connor or something like that. Anyway my boss told me to find this guy and fire him before this company holiday (they called it J-day for short, not sure the significance of that)
Long story short his Mom kept blocking me from telling him the news. I mean I even dressed as a police officer to try and trick him but his mom saw right through my disguise. I finally became self-aware that this guy was no where to be found. It's like he up and transported through time or something. Weird first day.

First day back at my hometown grocery store after my first year of college. The other guy who was on my shift didn't show. Found out the next day he kidnapped a child and was in a high speed chase a few hours from there.
First day at my first real job, I was an hour late due to a train derailment in the town. Had to use a lot of back roads to get to the plant.

My first day was simple, "drive to the hotel and check in". My first week was an intro program (oilfield service company). It was awesome. The whole week was spent learning about the company by day and enjoying a cold beverage on some VP's tab at night.

That's a whole other story entirely that would take a huge wall of text to tell. Short version is, yeah he was awful at his job. So much so that the boss would just throw his work in the trash and have a contractor redo it for the last three months that he was there.

Sort of related... The other day i called one of the interns in my office and informed him i was recommending him for a permanent position...

WTF?? How close is he from graduating? He has been interning, is informed he has a permanent position then decides he doesn't want to be an engineer anymore? That's insane.

I was shocked. Every time i mentor a millenial from a upper mid family i get burned bro.
Eta: it was a new professional program. He graduated from UNO comp sci last year. We take comp sci grads as software engineers if they want.

I'm looking out of state for a change of scenery currently.
Beating myself up for dropping all my classes when my mom passed away a year ago. Would have finished up at TU in geology this semester and had some local stuff lined up. But nope, beating myself up now.

I went to work in Saudi Arabia for a new company. I had never worked overseas before. I was told when I land in Dammam there will be a driver holding a sign with my name on it. My flight landed around 9 pm and it was the last flight, they close the airport around 11. I get through customs and to the pick up area. No driver and no one that speaks English. I have no cell phone service and they didn't have Wi-Fi. I stand around for over an hour and they were about to close the airport down when a driver asked me where I was going. He could barely understand English and realised my driver hadn't showed up. He called the only contact number I had and got a driver on the way. I waited outside for an hour for the driver to finally show up and take me to my hotel.
This was in 05, a redneck from Louisiana was expecting to get my head chopped off at any moment. I had this happen to me several times but I knew where to go so I would just get a taxi. Those frickers were horrible at taking care of our travel arrangements.

Not sure what your second to last paragraph meant, but figured that's how potheads sound in their thoughts.

In high school I worked at dominos. New guy started went ourt for his first delivery. Came through the drive through a bit later and said "I quit".
Turns out he did not put his car in park and his car rolled down the street into a parked car and he fled, pizza and all.

The company I sold print advertising for had lots of people that quit their first day on the floor. That was after they went through at least a week of training. One guy didn't last that long.
Bunch of us used to like to read the Dallas Observer. The closest place to our office that had them was a porn store with booths where they showed movies. One day when three of us went in to get the papers, a guy who had been taken around and introduced to all of us, came out of the movie booth area. He spoke to us, and I guess he was really embarrassed, because he didn't come back to the office. We were disappointed because we had told everyone about seeing him there. He was smart to not come back.

First day as co-manager of a department. I soon realize that my co-manager thinks that I'm her employee. When I ask the General Manager I find out that they were afraid to tell her that they were splitting her department and giving me half. She wouldn't believe me so I had to drag her in front of the GM and force the issue.

Get in at 9, driver comes in and we take off. We make it to Read Blvd and he says I'm tired, you going to have to drive, you ever pulled a trailer. I said yeah but I never drove a standard. He says you'll do fine, so I jump in the drivers seat and drive the truck to Ocean Springs, MS. I ever crossed the scales on I-10 when you get into MS. I was scared shitless.
