The boomers sold this country out.

I'm glad to hear the opposite of what I experience.

My wife quit working when my first grandchild was born to watch him. I retired when he was one to help her and our new grandchildren. We don’t want strangers raising our grandchildren. I know we were lucky to be able to do this. We are both 60 and having the time of our lives. It is harder than work but more rewarding.
Same boat here. We watch our grandson no less then 4 days a week all day.

Stop being so selfish.
It isn’t Scruffy’s generation’s fault that y’all didn’t save appropriately.

What does this mean?
Kids start school at 4 years old now a days, are you home schooling your grandkids?

My wife and I are goat grandfather and grammie. We're fricking poster grandparents. During the war we pretty much raised our granddaughters during deployments. Took them to see Jaws at Movie Tavern yesterday evening. Great fun.

I think it's because many "old" people aren't really that old anymore. When I was little, my grandma was in her 60's and she had a small social life, but for the most part she was home all day. My dad is 70 and is out and about every day living life and doing stuff. If I had kids, he wouldn't be home enough to babysit.

The last I saw boomer grandparents were outspending both money and time compared to most previous grandparents.
I’d imagine in part because they are living longer, healthier and decided to bankrupt the future to put cash in their pockets.

Not my experience. Not sure how you can make a statement like that based on a sample size that small.
This is the i-n-t-e-r-n-e-t.
Sure he can, that's what it was made for.

Nope
I love about 6 hours away from my mom, she will fly to see my daughter and I drive my daughter to see her every couple of months

Are you sure about this? I know a lot of boomers who would be retired and much better off financially if they hadn't spent so much of their income on their kids.
I don't know you, so I apologize if I'm off base, but it sounds like you may be one of those kids. Blaming a previous generation for your situation in life is a huge red flag. It makes you sound, I don't know, spoiled maybe?

Again, as I pointed out in my previous statement, quite the opposite of selfish.

You do give good advice. I'm retired, financially secure, and loving it!
Also, my wife and I are very involved grandparents.

I'm not a "baby boomer" but a silent generation grunt. I've watched the trends develop over the last sixty years, and I have to reluctantly admit most of the millenials today are among the most spoiled, indulged, self-centered bunch I've ever seen. Not all of them, I've seen some really nice socially responsible millenials. The rest....hummm. The problem? The boomers were so busy making $$ they simply ignored their future millenial. If they made enough $$ (which many did) they simply hired a nanny. Then when they felt guilty they bought their kids stuff. You know stuff like dirt bikes, cars, video games, you know.....toys. Anything to keep little jimmie busy and OUT of their hair. Won't even discuss the poor kids who were the victim of broken marriages. A few of these profoundly troubled products of broken marriages are now shooting up our high schools. The lucky ones were those who had good grandparents to step up and provide some sense of stability and afirmation in their lives.
Want to know the scariest part? These millenials are about to move in positions of power in government, religion and business. Their mindset? Well if I was indulged and got all this free stuff, why can't every body else have free stuff too?

My parents are Boomers and the MIL is a WWII generation Grandmother. The MIL has been far better at being a grandparent than my parents have been. I tried my best to involve my parents but, they weren’t interested.

Please elaborate as to what your parents are not doing where you think they should. Are you expecting free babysitting or something like that?
Posted on 7/7/18 at 5:01 pm to Landmass
Boomers were shitty parents so it shouldn’t be surprising if they also are shitty grandparents.
Posted on 7/7/18 at 5:06 pm to Landmass
My parents are boomers, and I sometimes feel like a piece of shite because they watch our daughter so much. They also spoil her, which may not be the best but I can't say they don't have the very best of intentions. All in all, we appreciate the hell out of it.

To OP. Selfishness and dumb comes in all sizes and generations.

They’re too involved and downright spoil our kids often directly against our wishes.
So in a way, they’re also terrible.
They can only be involved and spoil as much as you let them.
Sounds like you're the terrible ones to me.
