There are a lot of baby boomers who want nothing more than to spend time with their grand kids. They will do anything in the world for them, give them whatever they want, etc.. With that said, my mom is not one of those grandparents.
Well, she has her moments when she does things for them, etc.. But she isn't one that allows the grandkids to do whatever they want. She will correct them, slap them, etc as if it was her kids.
I've been at her house when the grandkids are there and I see or hear them doing something and I am just like "oh shite.. somebody is about to get it" and them moments later. I hear fussing and some crying.. But they really don't act up around her. They had their moments, but they will act like completely different kids when their parents come around..
But there are some grandparents, if they are called to babysit them.. They will cancel whatever they have going on, no matter what, to watch them.. My mom. If she is called to watch them and she plans on doing something...she enjoys doing.. She isn't cancelling.

LOL! you sound like my daughter in law! Sorry I bought the kids all those fireworks! And for feeding them meat! You can kiss my boomer a$$ lady !!

No, they just tend to spoil their grandchildren to death.
They didn't have shite as a kid and might not of been able to spoil their kids, but they do with the grand children.
I went to amazon to get some house shite, and it autofilled my fathers account, and didnt realize it was his, and after seeing all kinds of lego shite being bought, i went to history of account and holy frick, over 2K spent on shite for just the past 3 months.
And my Mom and Dad watch their grandchild every day for my sister. And take care of shite around the house. That's saving them $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I just missed out on being a baby boomer and qualify as gen-x. My wife is "baby boomer" makes every possible effort to see our GK several times a month sometimes it's a bit much. These are bonus GK for me being we have a blended family. I'm in the process of purchasing a small 21' bay boat and some land north of Tampa so these kids have a decent chance of being a good coon arse. I would say we're committed to putting our fingerprints on their lives. Your parents may change their tune. Hopefully!

I’m taking care of grandson right now, but, screw your general opinion of us.

It's not generational. I'm a boomer and my parents would've kept my kids 24-7 if I'd let them. My in-laws didn't want them around for more than the length of a meal.
I've got a grandson and we steal him every chance that we get.

My MIL would come over weekly if I'd let her. She did for months, until we finally had to cut her off and say we need a weekend alone. Now we let her pick him up from daycare every once in a while and drop him off at our house in the evenings. Win-win.

don't blame this on boomers.
I will tell ya what is sickening is the current generation of parents spoiling their kids with ipads @ age 3. They will pay the price later when their kid gets a divorce because they are such a brat as an adult.

That is because they are all broke and have to keep working jobs that they won’t give to their offspring because they didn’t save money.

ETA- I was looking for a good post to use this gif I added text to, and yours won!

My wife's parents are the same way. I have friends that complain about the same situation with their parents. The boomers seem to be a very selfish generation, IMO.
Sounds like y’alls parents problem is that they spoiled you and you feel entitled. Maybe your kids aren’t a pleasure to have around?

Maybe your kids and your friends kids have been raised to be obnoxious little brats and the grands don't want to deal with them?

Don’t blame this on boomers. The greatest generation could drop out of high school, go and fight in world war 2 then come home and buy a house, get a job, and their wife didn’t even have to work. What did they do then? They ruined the economy for us boomers!

There is a lot of truth to this. It isn't just the grandparents who spoil the kids. We obviously live in a materialistic society, but it amazes me just how materialistic people are. Parents don't want their kids to be the only kids not to have something, but as soon as they get it... there is something new that is trendy.. And it is a constant giving then moving on to something else. You can't really teach kids how to appreciate things when you are always giving them the next new thing.

I think its case by case. My folks are still in LA, my wife's folks live within sight, same neighborhood, and kids have each spent the night once, and wasn't a full 24 hours. My oldest is 8 my youngest is 5. They'll come to baseball games and take one to library for couple hours during the summer, but they can literally go weeks without seeing them. Pisses my folks off since they think they take them for granted being so close.
Conversely we have friends whose parents take their kids Friday or Saturday night every weekend, as well as friends whose parents take the kids for up to a week at a time, sometimes on vacations.
I will definitely be the latter when that time comes.
