Does anyone else think that boomers are terrible grandparents?

I know this is not true in every case but it seems that, for the most part, this is an accurate statement.

My grandparents made time for us. My parents may or may not fit in some time with my kids. My wife's parents are the same way. I have friends that complain about the same situation with their parents. The boomers seem to be a very selfish generation, IMO.

My parents constantly beg to watch my daughter

Hell my parents just kept all of their grandkids (9 total) for a full week at their house

My experience does not match up with this. Pretty much the opposite, really.

Not my experience. Not sure how you can make a statement like that based on a sample size that small.

My parents and my wife’s parents are the opposite. They’re too involved and downright spoil our kids often directly against our wishes.

So in a way, they’re also terrible.

I know my wife and I will definitely not have to beg either set to see the kids.

Ha!

I'm a horrible son b/c my kids don't call and visit enough (per mom). Grandma would move in if we would let her.

You expect to dump your kids on them at any hour? They have a life, get over yourself.

My parents are pretty involved with my kid. They are a big reason why we've stayed in LA to date.

My wife's parents live 7 hrs away so we only see them about twice per year.

My wife quit working when my first grandchild was born to watch him. I retired when he was one to help her and our new grandchildren. We don’t want strangers raising our grandchildren. I know we were lucky to be able to do this. We are both 60 and having the time of our lives. It is harder than work but more rewarding.

My dad has an excuse, do to health issues, but my mom and my mother in law don’t really make an effort to see my kid.

Maybe they don't like your baby mama.

I can’t speak to any boomer grandparents other than my MIL. But as for her, she’s the quintessential southern “grandma”. She loves having our kids come spend the night where she dotes on them and in general spoils them rotten. She is very involved in my kids lives. She comes to almost all their events from pagents to sporting events. She’s even gone on several vacations with us. The kids adore her. I couldn’t ask for a better grandmother for my kids.

I understand what you are saying but i dont think that is a generational thing.

What i do think is a generational thing is the Boomers still strive to keep control of their kids even thought their kids are adults with families of thier own. I have seen this with most people with boomer parents. Boomers havent realized that they arent in control anymore(or are losing control) you see it in the workplace as well.
