Agreed. I often wonder if other countries are as bad as we make it seem also.

I’ve been to a few of them in recent years that get a lot of hate on this site or in general but thought they were awesome. Of course, I wasn’t venturing off into to poorer area.

I don’t think many of the WC fans were visiting the shadier areas of Baton Rouge for example. Or Gunspoint area of Houston even though Houston was a site for games.

I have a cousin who grew up in California and moved to Australia 25 or so years ago. She was normal before she moved, but won't come back to visit because of gun violence. Her mom has recently been diagnosed with dementia and her dad's health is not great, yet she won't bring their grandkids for a visit because they are all going to get shot in Boise, ID.

The media in this country lies to Us
The media is alegit propaganda under the guise of news.
When big pharma is running ads every commercial break do you think they are going to speak ill of big pharma.
When the news executives hide stories about Harvey Winestein, Epistein ect who does that help?.the victims, the public? It helps them.
The media controls what you see and hear even in passing.
The people who allow themselves to be consumed by the left or right media are just lost souls begging to be part of something a group / movement that gives the purpose, because their lives a generally sad and lonely. Except the cool grand pa who believes every conspiracy, he fun to be around!

The socialist democratic media machine tried, but failed, and it's glorious to see.

No. Watch 5 minutes of CNN or MSNBC and you'll understand why outsiders think this place is so terrible without having actually been here. There's a bunch of Americans that believe the same thing from watching that crap and not experiencing the red states for themselves.

God, Canadians. I was at an All-inclusive in Mexico in April. It was filled with Canadians. Many of them let it be known that they weren't visiting the US while Trump was President. In a polite way, I said do you really think we care? Then they wanted to debate gun violence. I know my stats. I said if you stay away from black ghettos that eliminates 50-60% of danger for you. Hearing the racial component of that made them very uncomfortable. They then tried to argue about the mass shootings. And they didn't like when I said "you prevent those by having an armed citizenry. A good guy with a gun can eliminate a bad guy with a gun".
They just ended the conversation.

They figured out pretty quickly that the media here and in their home countries lied to them. Nothing baffling about that
And there were also areas of Chiraq, Baltimore, Detroit, St. Louis, etc. that they didn't visit.

Not surprising since our current political dynamic is centered on rampant social media campaigns to make Americans think everything is falling apart at the seams.

Just look at all the posts here on the OT every day.

don't think our media is tough on other countries at all. Especially European countries

Yet, there are daily threads exaggerating any negative from Europe on this very board which have been shared constantly on social media.

And most of the posts piling on and agreeing even with most obviously fake ones.

A while back X changed the algorithm to where we were getting a lot of posts from Japan.

I discovered that the Japanese seriously thought the rest of the world hated them. They are taught this in school and by their media. The rest of the world supposedly hated them because they were too "Eastern" and because of the Fukushima disaster after the tsunami. There was a lot of guilt about World War 2 also.

Americans were baffled by this. Most of us respect the Japanese and their unique culture. Not sure why they would think we hated them for a disaster that was not their fault. In fact it was pretty brave how they handled the situation.

The Japanese are widely recognized as always doing the right thing even when it's difficult. Hard to think of another nation or culture that shares that reputation.

I say all this to show that it's not just a European or American phenomena. The press lies to us all and are the enemy of the people.

If you watch American politics half the country believes this as well.

Read this board and you see a large portion of the posters preach this.

Media can be bad but it doesn't hold a candle to the Facebook and Twitter campaigns designed to throw gas on the fire of whatever political biases their target has, left or right.

I live in NYC so it's obvious how out of countless local news stories, the worst one always immediately makes it to Tigerdroppings.

That's everywhere on all sides these days and it's a lot more social media political influencer driven than simply traditional media, though all the niche cable news outlets are doing their part as well.
