This, and no cell phones that have to be answered, no emails, no one playing music too loud, nice weekend with no worries, and it’s a hell of a good way to learn a lot of history of that time period ...

...and lots of alcohol at night.

Lots of alcohol.

Growing up we went to the one at Port Hudson and Camp Moore every year. I enjoyed them. I participated in one once in Mississippi as a stand-in; it was fun. Died in the first three minutes or so. I was a Yankee so I wanted to die anyway. The camping and dance were fun.

I lived in the DC area in the late 90s and attended the 1998 Gettysburg Reenactment as a spectator. It's widely considered the largest reenactment ever with estimates anywhere between 15k-20k reenactors.

It was one of the more surreal experiences of my life. It was a foggy morning and we couldn't see anything from the spectator area because of it until about 30 minutes after the firing started and the sun came up and burned off the fog. Once the open fields of infantry revealed themselves it was like I was right in the middle of the actual battle. Simply amazing.

1hCapt. Andrew Luck

Dearest mother — The quill has never felt more heavy. I have made the decision to holster my sidearm permanently. I shall battle no more. The decision is difficult, but, as the hogs taught me, I must be true to myself. I am coming home to care for you and the farm.

Never been to a re-enactment. I do, however, metal detect on family land and found a huge amount of civil war stuff.
