Get some saltines and smoked oysters, sardines, and kippered herring. Lots of great recommendations on here.

Canned salmon, tuna and sardines on occasion. Can't say I enjoy any of them, but it's a means to an end.

Yes. Open can. Dash a little soy sauce on it. Eaten with white rice and furikake.

These are usually tinned rather than canned. I've eaten all of them they are quite good

The hipsters call it "tinned fish"

I was going to say, it's called "tinned" fish, not "canned"

It's definitely popular in "hip" spots. We have a hipster wine shop that has a wall of tinned fish. You choose what you want, and they'll make a plate out of it, kinda like charcuterie.

Seems like the salt level in that would not be tolerable

I'll put canned anchovies on my pizza when I make it at home. Also, canned sardines with crackers occasionally as a snack.

We fried those up and had them Christmas Day

Not my first choice but it really wasn’t bad at all

My grandparents used to do this for breakfast on Christmas morning and my uncle would sop up all the juice with his biscuits

Current pic of my snack drawer at work, by the pistachios and canned tuna salad. Great for an afternoon snack or working late.

Emeril's new Portuguese restaurant "34" has it on the menu. $18.

I eat the heck out of some sardines. One of the best things I've ever had was canned smoked salmon from a friends uncle in Alaska. As others have said, the sardines from Portugal and Spain are top notch.

I used to eat red herring, but it never really led to anything significant.

Canned salmon and/or mackerel patties are what I grew up with.

When I read this thread it was the first time I had thought about salmon patties since I left home decades ago. For years I thought it was just some weird thing only my mom did.

Today I was over at my neighbor's helping him do some DIY stuff and his wife was cooking salmon patties. It turns out they were talking about them a week or so ago and it was something neither of them has eaten or even seen since their youth. I sat down and ate one and it brought back a lot of memories but I have to admit her version was better than my mom's at least what I remember of them.

Eat lots of canned fish and fish in a jar as long as it does not come from China.
