Do you use your dining table?

We bought a new dining set about 4 years ago and have not used it once. We have a separate smaller table off the kitchen which is the go to. I feel like a formal dining room is really a waste of space.

Ate on it every night growing up.

Absolutely. Once every 3 years or so we use the formal dining room.
Also gives us a chance to use that high dollar. China and Czech crystal glass set we “had to have”.
I’m with you… I’m with you..,

Yes.
We like to have sit down dinners often.

Dinning rooms seem to be getting phased out with newer floor plans.
We prefer the patio for dinners.

And for this reason we don’t have a formal dining room. Wasted space.

Dining rooms and formal dining plates/dishes/silverware are really an interesting topic in how much our society has changed in relatively quick period of time.
We take meals for granted and we are too busy to have time to appreciate a space used just for dining.
Not sure if it’s a good or bad thing, but I do think people aren’t as good at sitting and enjoying a meal and having a conversation in any setting, are more impatient and demanding at restaurants, etc. and I think it does tie back
Even funnier/sadder is that dining room space is now being used as home offices in many new houses/remodels

I use the dining room table to pile up Amazon boxes before flattening them to take out to the trash.
We also use it when we have company over for Thanksgiving.
Virtually useless - yet the wife wants a new one.

We converted the formal dining room into what we call the “front room”, which is essentially a second living room. We have a large kitchen with bar seating for 4 and also a “breakfast room” attached that has a table that seats 8. More than enough seating for us.

We don't even own a dining room table.

Don’t have a dining room much less a dining table.

Yeah we do. That’s one thing my wife and I make a priority - eating together for supper as a family without any distractions. It’s not something I did growing up (meals were always eaten either in the living room in front of a tv or in my room) but I love it. Honestly one of the best parts of my day.
We are in the process of moving though and the way the new house is setup it’ll be interesting to see how often the dining room table is used - will have space for a little breakfast nook that’ll probably be used more often.

Don't have a dining table. Mostly eat at the kitchen bar.
What is supposed to be the dining room at my house is too small for an actual dining table, so we use the room for other stuff.

We’re going this route as well. Our formal dining area is a large space that basically doesn’t get used except for a place to put my wife’s (no pics) peleton bike. Gonna make it into a kind of lounge area with a bar and seating for 6. Get better use of the space when hosting friends instead of just sitting on the couch or patio.

Every Christmas and every other thanksgiving. Other than that it just stores up Amazon packages and clothes returns from my wife.

We eat family dinners about 3/week in the dining room with the kids

We put our dining room table in the kitchen and turned our dining room into a library.
