I prefer to have both lanes open. If they change lanes into you, you're at fault.

Depends on the speed limit on the road. 35 mph 4 lane through town? Yes

65 mph highway? No

Depends on the road/traffic in the area. If it’s something like Bardstown Road here at rush hour, you’re not going to get an all clear to pull out.

If traffic is heavy, are you going to just sit there for a half hour?

If the nearest lane is clear and no one has their turn signal on in the other lane indicating a turn, then I'm going.

I realize idiots can/may swap lanes without indication, but I'm not about to sit there forever until ALL traffic is clear in the lane that I'm not even turning into.

I haven’t given that situation much thought- I just avoid pulling out in front of people

I've done it, but hate doing it. Will only do it if I've been waiting for an opening for a long time and cars are piling up behind me. Not only do you risk somebody changing lanes, but if you're in a bigger vehicle and situated in a way you can't make a real sharp turn, then you risk entering that far lane for a second

I see this bullshite multiple times a day.

I haven't left my house since COVID started, so this isn't an issue for me
