I 100% agree with your dad.
Only fly when I absolutely have to.

With road trips, you get to see the rest of the country. I'd rather be driving with the windows rolled down than miserable in a plane or airport.
You can also stop at multiple locations along the way. Can't do that in an airplane.
I wouldn't know anything about the country between here and L.A. had I not made the drive out there.

Hwy miles don't count for much when it comes to wear and tear.
We take ours. I put 7000 miles on the last trip to Canada. 4runner is now at 220k and runs like new.

Whether you want to pay for insurance (if there is the smallest little ding they will hit you for a major repair as they do not repair vehicles with small rings until someone returns a car without insurance and then it all has to be repaired immediatelyz Whether you care about convenience of simply getting in your vehicle v. going to a car rental place to pick it up and having to be back at the rental place at a certain time.
I have tried it, but it is too much hassle IMO. Toneach her/his own, though.

I really don’t get the appeal of road trips.
Really?
Road trips are a lot of fun and you get to see so much.
I've rented in the past (especially for road trips over 2,000 miles), but I've gradually switched to just using my personal vehicle.

So he won't go anywhere without his pistol?

if the mileage on your car bothers you then just buy a cheap economy car like a ford focus that gets 40mpg or something like it. in the long run its cheaper then renting and if something happened to the rental your buying "them" a new car

Wait, what? We bought a nice family ride TO take trips in.

That was how Raylan Givens knew a Marshal seizure notice on a website was fake. "If we had done it, we'd probably have spelled our name right."

I fly a lot for work, so I'd much prefer driving in my leisure time.
I drive all day for work. I won't drive further than 8 hours. Dallas to New Orleans is about as far as I'll go.

We drive typically and we rent a vehicle.
