re: Do you leave beer at parties or dinners as a courtesy?

Yes. I consider it part of the "thank you" for hosting everyone. My wife and I always bring a bottle of wine to occasions like that. If it's more casual, I'll bring a 6 or 12-pack of beer.
I love when my wife wants to host people at our house. It usually means about a dozen or two free beers for me along with the occasional fifth of bourbon the classier guests will bring as a gift.

Don't take expensive craft beer to parties?

All I know is when I have a dinner party at my place or have a crawfish/crab boil and invite people over I always make sure my bar is stocked and beer fridge is full. Obviously if people want their craft beer or fancy wine they bring their own.
Same here and I hate it when people leave their shitty beer at my house. I don't want your half drank bottles of wine, coors light, stiegl radlers, or whatever you drink. Am I the only one who is not offended when people take their stuff with them?

I usually leave a couple lines of blow behind as a thank you.

Where I'm from, we call them "Suppers". And yes, if I am drinking beer, I typically pack an ice chest. I hate when people come to my house and move all the shite in my fridge around to fit their fricking twelve pack. I ain't got room for everyone to fricking fit a twelve pack or six pack in my fridge. I have actual food in there.

Any food or beverage I bring to a party is done so with the intent of leaving it.

I have had people leave it in the fridge then come and get it the next day. I had to impose the 24 hour rule. 24 hours after the party what is in the fridge is mine.

I usually take a bottle or two of whiskey home with me from the host's bar. I'll also check his wife's purse for petty cash.

I have a really fat buddy we've named Six Pack. One to make fun of his weight and another because he brings a six pack and drinks 12.

Yikes. Please tell me you and friends are under the age of 25.

Yes
It becomes "house liquor" at that point.
That is the general rule for adults.

Depends on the nature of the party. If it's anything semi-official I'll leave it, but if it's just a small group of close friends apartment-hopping before going out I might take it with me until the last stop if there's any left.
I'm a firm believer in the idea that any booze brought to a social gathering is the property of everyone at the function, though.

I usually bring my beer in an ice chest, so no. I don't empty out my ice chest before leaving a party. However, if I just bring a sixer or twelve pack and stick it in their fridge, then I'll typically leave whatever is left, which usually isn't much because I like to party.
This. If you use their fridge or ice chest, leave it. If you have your own, keep it.

Do you really think I even remember that I brought something?

It all depends on what kind of beer. Generally I'll leave a couple of bottles, but most of the parties I go to I'm the one bringing the beer noone else drinks.

This. When I go to my father-in-laws for a bbq, I might bring a craft beer, but he only has and will ever drink Miller Lite. Of course I'm going to take it because I know he won't drink it. It will just be sitting there until I come back the next time.

a friend has the habit of putting his 6 pack in the fridge, then drinks other people's beer all night. at the end of the night, he takes his 6 pack home.
or if he's got money that day, he'll buy good beer, leave it in his car, and go back and forth to get a fresh one.
