I’ve lived a lot of places and I’ve never been as happy anywhere as I am here. I love this state. I don’t have the same kind of love affair with Louisiana that Texans have with Texas, but I chalk that up to the fact that I’m not completely ridiculous.

Absolutely, especially lately. The city is a joke.... not dealing with roads, infrastructure, drainage. I’m leaving as soon as I can

Outside of St. George, it's a shithole with horrendous traffic and crime.

The truth? There's nothing wrong with the geography.

The problem- just like anywhere else with similar problems- is that BR harbors a healthy population of feral sh*tbags who refuse to live by the rules of a civil society.

Baton Rouge is the next Jackson. But once we get St George up and running, that'll be like Madison, MS.

So frick it. We riding.

The best thing about Baton Rouge is the drinking water. I have been to a lot of places and BR water is by far the best.

As for BR being a shithole....I have lived here almost all my life and yes, it is currently 90% a shithole.

In the early-mid 80's when I was a teen, BR was a wonderful place to grow up. Read the threads about Cortana Mall, for example. Lots of nostalgia and good memories. BR had everything you needed, plus a few cool things too. There were only a few "bad" areas of town and you pretty much knew where they were, but most of the town was well kept, the schools were good, people weren't killing each other.

Then an a-hole judge desegregated the schools, breaking up "neighborhood schools" and forcing busing and this place has declined since. All the middle-class white people (and a lot of middle-class minorities, for that matter) moved out of the parish, leaving only the poor inner-city dwellers as the "tax base".

Most major cities run by Democraps are shitholes. BR is no different.

I hate to play the nostalgia card, but when I grew up in BR in the 80s it seemed like a great place to be young (thanks LSU) AND to raise a family. It was everything NO wasn't.

Then came the destruction of the schools, and also the "borderline" creeped down, first to Greenwell Springs and then to Florida.

Now it's NO w/o NO's assets. And that's not good.

In 20 yrs it will be Jxn Ms. A few livable areas, the rest culcha.

BR kind of is what you made of it for the most part. It’s not great at all but it’s not as bad as made out to be here.

If you think BR is a shite hole then I don’t know if you’ve seen a lot of cities. shite hole is a gross exaggeration

BR definitely has its infrastructure and leadership issues but the people acting like it’s some wasteland are being ridiculous. I mock it a good bit but come on

It's pretty bad. I couldn't live there. While only 80 miles from New Orleans, Baton Rouge (culturally) feels like an entirely different city. Honestly, it isn't too resemblant of a south Louisiana town imo.

Also, LSU is the best and worst thing about Baton Rouge.

Why do you think St. George is such a huge topic?

Yes. Shares a mecca with all the crime, HIV, low job expectations in a poor state where pot isnt even legal.

If it was legal and you could smoke your hardships away at the end of the day openly without fear of property forfeiture or arrest..

I hate that my home state gets an honorable mention in a special ed race.

Absolutely.

Outside of LSU campus, the city is a dump.

Parts of it
It's not a very pedestrian friendly and not many pedestrian friendly areas to begin with

If the area from downtown to LSU campus was in better shape it would be a lot nicer and downtown would thrive in my opinion
Also, some sort of entertainment district from LSU to Lauberge casino would be attractive

The war zone that lies north of Florida Boulevard, I don’t ever see having a chance at gentrification.
