You go to their spot, and it's hellish hot. They indeed have serviceable ac, whether it be central air or multiple window units. In there suffering in smothering heat just save a few dollars...

You bring it up, and they start talking about their bill going up or some other bs. This is after they asked YOU to come over.

For some people it may be AC or food and medicine. I’d pick food and medicine myself.

No. I have one friend that keeps his at 76, which can be stuffy at times, but not unbearable.

Also, I witnessed a fight at a Christmas party that stemmed from the host not wanting to turn the AC on and just leave the doors open, even though there were many small children attending. One guest turned the Ac on and shut the door since it was a fairly busy neighborhood street, and the host was having none of it.

inb4trashy, because yes that story is trashy as frick

People think not running their air saves a lot more money than it does. Just like the idiots who will go out of their way or wait in line for a pump to save five cents a gallon. Congrats. You saved a dollar

A lot of old people do this. And many who do, become casualties of the Heat and humidity.

They can barely afford to live, so they put AC as 2nd to food and medicine.

Why operations that help pay for elderly and poors utility bills are worthy.

Not in Louisiana.

I did an AirBnB in California one year that had central air. Getting them to turn on the A/C was like pulling teeth.

Not enough to cool a house full of people and running ovens and hot plates for all the food. It was stuffy as frick and uncomfortable.

Don't host a party if you're too cheap to keep your guests comfortable. Needless to say, the party no longer happens at this house.

I’m intrigued if it’s a “she” we are talking about.

Stopped reading here because the rest of it seemed blah.

ComEd here in Chicago here has a program where you can get bill credits for reducing your usage during high demand times. They send a text that says it's active from something like 1-6 p.m. The last one I basically turned off the AC, kept the lights off, didn't do any laundry or anything, and kept the refrigerator closed, and then got a text the next day that I got a $7.20 credit. Not too shabby, and I treat it like a game anyway...I'm basically tGOAT energy saver.

My in-laws use the AC sparingly, but not because they're cheap. They just prefer the temperature in their house to be 80+ degrees. It sucks. They're in sweaters when we're visiting because they try to accommodate me by setting the thermostat to 76 when I'm there.

And they're not that old.

Yes! Co-worker told me he doesn’t turn on his A/C until the official start of summer, 3rd week in June. Uses a 20 inch box fan otherwise. His wife has to sit in the heat all day. And he will set it at 80 once he turns his A/C on. He is a miserable miser who will die with a couple of million or more since he can’t change his habits.

He came in beaming one day and said he bought a new car....well, new to him. Got a steal on it. I went to look at it and it was a badly hail damaged Dodge Neon. He would not get it fixed because that would ruin the deal he got and money saved.

Man, Stan was as tight as they come.

A bro I worked with was super cheap/hella frugal. He'd stay at the office late just to use free internet and soak in the AC. He'd also come in on the weekends and hang out in his cube watching Netflix and chilling saving on his home electricity.

He lived in a condo about three blocks from the office and brag about how much he saved on his electric bill and had no DSL or cable bill. Said the neighboring condos kept his cool enough to sleep in.

This is central Florida with humidity out the arse. No way he wasn't waking up in a puddle of sweat every morning.

No one ever went to his house though. His life sounded super miserable but he was getting dates unlike Boo Krewe. They were all sort of homely but I was surprised he was even dating. It must've killed him knowing how much he could've saved if he just stayed at the office and went to pronhub. Maybe he was going dutch though.

Don't think he had any long term relationships, I can't see women digging a cheapskate. They really moisten up when you burn money.

I always thought the office on the weekend was a dick move. Huge office building and he's cooling it all off just to save a few pennies at home. No dignity.

I'm sure he was dumpster diving at whole foods too.
