My wife says that I get a strong Midwestern accent when I go back home or when I'm talking to my parents on the phone

I don't think so, but when I talk to people around here the first this they say is "You're not from here huh?"

Negative on an accent.

People do not know where I am from by my accent.

Possibly to some degree a result of my family living in the Midwest my 2nd & 3rd Grade years.

But then I am a cunning linguist so you can’t be sure if I’m telling the truth.

When I was told I had an accent, I used this saying. 'If you don't have an accent, you don't have a personality.'

Mine as become less pronounced living out here CA so long but I still get asked where I’m from on occasion. It does get heavy again if I’ve had a drink or two or talk to friends and family back home on the phone.

No, I’ve been asked by clients where I was from before I moved to Louisiana.

I grew up in Vermilion Parish, I think as a kid I intentionally tried to prevent myself from speaking with an accent, so I just never picked it up.

I’m from New Orleans and moved to Houston when I was 10. In Texas people had only mentioned when I would say certain words, but never mentioned anything about whether or not I had an accent overall. I don’t think I have much of a New Orleans accent anymore.

My parents, however, constantly get asked if they’re from New York or Boston. And to me, I don’t even notice they have an accent at all.

I grew tired of repeating myself all the time when I first went to work overseas so I eventually shed my accent. I'm told I don't really have an accent now.

From the first day on TD I have "heard" most posts on tOT like Farmer Fran was speaking them, I still assume a solid 20% of the board sounds exactly like him.

I tend to tone it down a bit in certain company, but I’m more than capable of the Southern Gentleman drawl.
