I was hauling away a bunch of junk with my truck from my Mom's house and ran over a Jack Russell terrier down the street from her house. The owner of the dog had a fence around his yard with a gate and the gate was wide open. The dog was just running loose and he had a habit of chasing cars until my truck came along. The dog must've slipped or misjudged my speed, he ended up underneath my back tire. The owner tried to get ignorant with me about killing his dog, but I pointed straight at his gate and told him that your dog would be still alive if your gate wasn't open.

When I was a kid...

My dad driving home late at night hit a deer in his minivan on a highway. He loaded it up and took it to a butcher.

Had deer meat on standby for about a month even after giving away a bunch to friends and family.

It was a venison miracle.

I thought I hit a squirrel in my neighborhood when I was leaving for work. Turns out it was somebody's cat and now I feel horrible about it. I also feel like all the old ladies somehow know and hate me for it.

Dog - feel bad for the day

Cat - Feel bad for 5 minutes

Squirrel/Opossum - don’t care

Skunk - immediate regret

Bird - (if no damage to my vehicle) hilarious

I was on vacation and at the beach in FL. I was driving right behind another car, doing the speed limit or 20mph or so, and then all of a sudden the car ahead of me swerves and I no chance to do the same. There was a big arse turtle in the road and I couldn't avoid it and ran it over.

This was like 5 or so years ago and I still fricking feel bad about it.

I had a fricking deer jump in front of me. If it hadn't hit the driver's side door in a way that made it where I couldn't open it, I would have gotten out and kicked the damn thing.

This thread reminds me of that old original internet picture with the free cat sign. I can't pass a dead cat on the road without saying "free cat."

The deer that darted out In front of my car rolled over off of my left bumper, got back up and ran off into the woods. It was a nice buck, maybe a big 6 pt. I felt worse for my car at $7,000 damage.

I go out of my way to hit possums, racoons, and water bottles. The water bottles are the most satisfying

I've never hit an animal with my vehicle because:

a) I'm not trashy and psychopathic enough to purposefully hit animals.

b) I don't have the reflexes of an old blind lady like those in this thread.

I’ve hit dogs before and felt really bad, but didn’t stop. My wife, god love her has a tender heart. She used to be a waitress and had waited on this huge Christmas party at her work and the guy tipped her 1k dollars. On her way home, her cousin ran over a dog. Instead of just leaving it, she makes her cousin take her to the vet, spends $700 of the 1k she made on getting the dog surgery, and he’s still living with us to this very day. That shite still pisses me off when I think about it.
