I spent a month in Mexico with some friends after graduating college.

At Mass there, only preteen virgin girls and one itty bitty 80 year old receive communion (other than the priest and deacon).

It was eye opening for the standards held by Catholics in other parts of the world.

All the rituals and the rules surrounding the rituals, yeesh. Catholicism seems like a pain in the butt. Why not just develop a relationship with God through his son Jesus Christ?

Those "other churches" see it as a symbol. That is why the sacrament is reserved for Catholics who are in communion with the Church.

I remember when Jesus only would hang our with other Jews and told them to be exclusive and not to include others. A large portion of my family is Catholic and they are excellent people. I find the Catholic Churches and masses to be beautiful and I enjoy them every single time I go. I am in no way anti catholic. But this type of thinking is why I'm not Catholic.

That’s not as convenient as it sounds.

It actually is. Getting it blessed doesn’t mean having another marriage ceremony

You are leaving out some details, because this is not how it works.

There's a lot wrong with this.

Presumably, she still goes to mass. So, Catholicism is important to her life, but not important enough to have the marriage blessed or raise your kids Catholic?

It’s her first marriage and my second. The priest who gave told my wife not to get communion was arrested I saw in the paper for being arrested recently. I don’t want to be associated with that church

Tell me about it, they can't catch sarcasm. But most Evangelicals are going to have a tough time. Jesus ain't your pal....or bro!

I feel like you're making up reasons not to get your marriage blessed.

No, when it happens, I do it proudly....knowing others might understand the importance of not receiving if you haven't confessed your sins. You are taking Jesus body and blood into your body. You should be clean to do that

I would hesitate to say clean. The original apostles were not necessarily " clean". They all had issues. Using "clean" as a metric would eliminate just about everybody. Ideally you should not be in a state of grave sin, though.

I’m asking questions and no one can answer them. They just downvote and make absurd comments such as this which in turn get upvoted.

Yeah because here.. People will go no matter what the situation is. I saw a guy, who I knew went to the Baptiste church and he and his family were Baptiste, once go to communion. He was at mass with his girlfriend at the time (it might still be his girlfriend or wife) and when it came time to receive communion, she was being low key dramatic and signaling for him to get up and go to communion with her. I kept my eye on them and ole boy looked scared.. And he was given communion. It was actually pretty funny.

Its also eye opening the number of people who don't know basic things about their religion.

Rise up high and think about this: One Christian set vs another Christian set.

I was taught that God intends, via Christianity, for the world to be united.
Yet, your wife gets treated like this, within the realm of Christianity (much less for now considering between religions). If unity struggles within Christianity, makes me wonder…

May your wife have a great relationship with God. Don’t let the man made cloak get in her way.

You do realize the Catholic Church has a "Special" going on for folks like yourself who were married before but not in the Catholic Church? You are eligible for an annulment.....like it never happened.

Just as much shame as not studying at a buddhist monastery or hinduism at an ashram. GTFO with this nonsense.
