Do you ever want a dip or chew years after you quit??

Those of you old enough may relate.
Back in the seventies I did Skoal (remember Earl Campbell "skoal brother"?
)
I quit in the eighties cold turkey on Skoal and would not even think about starting it again even though it really was good.
Since then though from time to time I will take up chewing for a month or two in a small way and then quit for years. I never was a carry a cup around guy in front of everybody. I did it when I had long drives or was working in the fields or outside. Never in front of women or latter my wife. Chew has never been hard for me to quit but Skoal was a habit. I can just stop chewing something like Redman. I am afraid to start Skoal again because I am not sure I could stop.
I wil have a cigar once or twice a year but that has never been a regular habit for me.
Now here I am 40 years latter and I swear I want to do it again. I know the urge will go away in few days but it is really strange. It is a filthy habit.
Anyone else have those urges?

I quit 7 years ago and I could start back right now. Itd be like I never quit. Seems like its something that will never go away.

I quit chewing and started smoking. Then I quit smoking.
I have no urge to ever pick up a cigarette again, but that pack of Levi at the gas station calls my name sometimes but I resist.

Guy I work with quit like 8 years ago and still chews 2 dozen pieces of nicorette a day. So I’d say he probably still wants to.

Not really an urge, but once in a while I get constipated and I think how a dip would fix me right up.

I don't have a nicotine habit. Literally I can go years without even thinking about it and then like the other poster says I will pick up a pouch. I may not even finish it but it is good to me then I will go years again without touching it or even thinking about it.

best friend growing up just died of throat cancer after years of dipping and chewing he was only 48 years old

Absolutely, dipped for 2 years then kicked the habit. Copenhagen and red seal were my jam. It started to give me headaches with weaker and weaker buzzes. Started tearing up my gums so it was easy to kick the habit. I switched to Juul and now I’m trying to kick that.. much more difficult.

I dipped skoal straight, a can a day, for about 8 years until I got married. Brain was tricked and thought it was the most delicious thing in the world. It has been 13 years now and I have not had the urge since the first several months trying to quit (which was brutally hard). From then until now the smell or sight of someone else dipping makes me want to vomit. I think it is a revolting habit and wish someone would have forcefully told me early on how disgusting it was when I was actively doing it. Realizing how gross it is for other people (wife) is what helped me finally kick the habit.

Never had any problems with worms or long-term relationships.

Come on, man, that's like saying to you, before you got on this program if you had taken a test were you taking Skoal or not. What do you think, huh? Are you a junkie?

Fine cut Red Seal wintergreen in my cheek at the moment.

I quit dipping for good in July.
Throw a can in front of me and I’ll be tempted to go full chipmunk.
But really, don’t even think about it anymore.
Dentist said I had great teeth in July when I quit. Some gum recession but not bad.
Dipped for 15 years.

This is what I miss the most.

That's because it's not a habit. It's an addiction.
I've been quit for over 5 years and just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Nicotine is VERY addictive and you're playing with fire even smoking the cigars.

I had to start dipping to quit smoking. I had no trouble quitting dipping, though. That was how I had to wean myself off of tobacco. But now, the thought of taking a pull off of a cigarette disgusts me, but I’d take a dip of SKOAL from the first person that offered it up. Kinda weird.

Every.
God.
Damn.
Day.
I stopped cold turkey about 10 years ago, and I could pick it right back up tomorrow.

Not that I’m 4 months removed, I see how nasty the habit is and I wouldn’t want to be around people who did it.
But I was never one of these loser dippers. You know the ones who do it in public, in a see through bottle, leave it sitting around for people to see.
I dipped at home like a professional gentleman or on my drive home from the bar. Long drives.
In college I dipped around my buddies but after that, I stopped.
I dated my wife for two years and married for two and she never saw me dip once. She knew about it but I didn’t advertise it to her.
