Honestly, if I had the money and the time and the right connection I’d love to do a week or 2 in the orient. I’ve always wanted to travel, I said that If when my perdition period passed if I hadn’t had my kids I’d would have hopped on a freighter and skipped cross the ocean.

All my travels have given me perspective. That’s the treasure I returned with. But the wanderlust burns. I feel it calling.

You’d love Southeast Asia. Keep an open mind with the food (which I don’t think is a problem with you) and it’s a blast for 2 weeks. Also it’s expensive to get there, but cheap as all hell once you’re there.

You are still young enough to change that. Wait until you're 65 and have those thoughts.

I have put my profession in front of everything, which has been a strain on my marriage, health and mental wellness.

Doing well financially, but I don't think it's worth it to be miserable.
I’ve always considered a torrid love affair in a tent on a beach better than living in mansion without passion.

Choose wisely.

Crazy > productive.

There's so much information available, things to do...no one should ever feel bored, or that they've wasted their life.

You're still very young. At 52 I lost my job and had to basically start over. Wound up moving and it took me almost two years to find steady employment. Oh yea, also went through a divorce.

You have plenty of time to do the things you want. Focus and go get it.

Yeah i was talking about a trip there with a friend who went and his sentiments were the same.

I’d love to try the cuisine. I’d want to go to the dive bars and the holes in the wall and not the tourist traps.

Yes. I feel I have underperformed, especially over the last decade. It depresses me and makes me wonder why I am alive, what my purpose is. The future often seems narrow and bleak. The past full of regret and squandered opportunity. The world contracts. The only solace I have is my wonderful daughter and my significant other.

The way I look at things:
All roads lead to the present. Mistakes and missed opportunities lead to growth and wisdom. There is no time like the present to change things.
Ten years ago, I was in rehab in marksville LA, fresh out of jail and fully knowing I should go to prison. I was working at sonic, walking 1.5 Miles each way, living in a house of bonafide criminals.
Eight years ago, I was in DC working at a think tank, lobbying Congress and writing white papers about drug reform.
Six years ago, I was wearing Hawaiian shirts for 200 straight days and Bartending on the beach.
Four years ago, I began my own insurance agency.
Two years ago, I was appointed by the Gov of AL to serve on an opioid task force (which I resigned from as those backwards fricks didn’t listen to a word I said).
Next year, I’ll be elected to AL State Rep and try to legalize pot in AL.

Life is what you make it man. Never too late til you’re in the ground. We only get one shot. Carpe Diem.

Wouldn say I feel like I have wasted my life. But there have. Been decisions that I wish I could change.

Mainly chosing Baseball over golf. All it took was one arm injury to derail that dream.

Not really wasted but I have “wished” my life away, wishing it was the weekend, wishing the month was done, I have begun to stop hating work, just doing what I can to get the job done, the older I get the less the life stressors get to me me, I also could care less about what co workers etc think of me

It's time way more than money. We're secure and comfortable, my daughter will have 10x the opportunity my wife or I had, and I hang my hat on that.

But the time. I work just about every weekend. I work 1-10 2-3x a week. How many times can a man see his kid for 45 minutes a day before they grow up and resent him for it? How many times can I force my wife to watch our toddler by herself all day Saturday and all day Sunday after working full time Mon-Fri? And she makes double what I do. How many years of her life have I pissed away?

It's almost too big to even comprehend, to even begin to reconcile. All you can do is ignore the ever-increasing anvil dangling over your head and work had at changing it, but I can't say I don't feel the shadow weighing on me every second of every day.

Lots of ringing endorsements for capitalism in this thread.

Listen, I have friends who buried their asses in the books at LSU. Lived zero life from 16-30. And yes they are more successful than I am. They are not happier and will often regret not enjoying their youth. Remember. Youth is wasted on the going.

If you can live a comfortable life and did it your way, there is no shame in a game well played.
