Today is the oldest you've ever been and the youngest you'll ever be again.

Enjoy the ride.

I’m around your age, and it feels like last week I would rock my son and read him a story every night before he goes to bed. He starts high school this week. It makes my head hurt wondering how we got to this point already.

My son turned 45 this past June. When I was a young man in my 20's one of my goals in life was to live to be older than my dad when he died (age 35). I've managed to double that last November when I turned 70.

As I get older I wonder where all the time went as it truly is a blur as you age.

The year I was born is closer to the attack on Pearl Harbor than today is to 9/11/01

Kenny Chesney song…. Don’t Blink.

The older you get the more you realize this song nails it completely.

Logically it makes sense. When you're young, your concept of an hour is in relation to a lot less hours lived. As you get older, that hour is smaller and smaller to total time lived.

Let's put it this way...I wish I was your age.

Sure. Found myself looking more at pictures from years ago. Some faded. Thinking about the woulda, coulda, shoulda's, if you know what I mean.

But...Here we are.

Each day is a gift from God to use as you see fit. Don't sweat the small stuff and do things that will create lasting memories with those you love while they're around.

In our case, while we still can, we've been traveling more. Even if I didn't get to all the places I wanted to go to, I've gotten to see and do things many haven't been able to.

Just got laid off last week, so for us, now is the time to take advantage of what time we have left and live life to the fullest. (Still waking up at 5:30am each day though damn it.)

When you’re 10 a year is 10% of your life, so it seems like a long time, when your 50 a year is just 2% of your life. So, as you get older time seems to past so much quicker.

And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun
But it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
But you're older
Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death

No doubt. Both my kids are adults now and that's when it really hits you. That shite passed in a blink of an eye.

Just you wait, young whippersnapper!

One day you’ll wake up and realize that “early onset” anything no longer applies. It’s just game on.

Next month that variety of backwards math gets me to 1899.

Ugh.

And for my eldest sibling, it’s 1875.

To the OP: My perception is that individual days are just as long as they were as a kid to me but weeks, months, and years go by more quickly.

I was thinking the other day, damn it sucks getting older and having so many people die. I also thought the other day, it’s cool getting older and watching all of these kids grow up.

A constant reminder for me is how out of touch I am with many modern pastimes and pop culture movements. Have zero interest in super hero movies, video games, most modern “music”, Tik Tok etc. I remember my Dad looking at me like I was crazy for enjoying the Clash and Sex Pistols. It’s sobering to realize that I’m now in that position … basically scratching my head over things that are so popular in our world. I also look back and can’t help but be thankful for all the many blessings I have had through all the years.
