That's a petty thing to get your drawers in a knot over.

I have the compostable plates that I occasionally use. I think they come in a package of 50 and will probably last me a year. I shred them and add them to my compost pile.

Paper plates are trashy unless it’s something quick (e.g. sandwich) with absolutely no company over.
Should I not have used paper plates for the burgers for the 20+ people over for our Super Bowl party?

My kids use paper plates 95% of the time. Why? Because we don't need them shattering plates.
Seems like its the older boomer crowed against paper paper plates.
PUT MY MASHED TATERS ON A REAL PLATE!!
STAY OFF MY LAWN!
DON'T DRINK FROM MY WATER FOUNTAIN!!

It's the opposite in my experience. Younger generations were drilled with the ~dangers of single use plastics~, so even if we don't personally feel very passionate about it, we kinda naturally use less of them.
Meanwhile my mother will send us home with leftovers packed into double-ply plastic containers, wrapped 15x in Saran, taped with painter's tape, and placed into double Ziplock freezer bags... "so it doesn't spill".

Seems like you have a different problem. I've had multiple kids who have never broken a f'ing thing in the kitchen, including ceramic plates, bowls and glasses.
And Gen X, not Boomer, young buck.

No it isn't... water is ultimately recycled, wasting paper and sending it to a land fill is much worse for the environment
Paper is a renewable resource. All we have to do is cut down more trees. If you weren’t a commie lib you would support your local tree farmers

Yep paper as often as we can. Hubby and I both work full time, kids in multiple activities. But we do eat numerous dinners together, around the table with no electronics. If paper makes that easier to accomplish, judge me all you want.

We buy paper plates/bowls from Sam's and use them on weeknights when we usually just have leftovers from weekend cooking projects or reheated frozen dishes. Keep two sizes of plates and bowls on hand.

We use paper plates for kids parties. Everything else is on real plates.
The kids do have some plastic plates for breakfast or snacks.

Everyday, I’d rather throw dishes away than wash them
Posted on 2/11/25 at 9:13 am to DavidTheGnome
We use them for small things, but my wife does the dishes, we both are arthritic, plates and glasses just slip out of our hands. We have a lot of unbreakable things, but they are ugly and don't last.

Most day my son and I eat off paper plates, my wife (no pics) usually eats off a plastic or glass plate telling me “I can wash them” but nah it’s all good. As often as not I’ll use a plastic fork as well just to give her a hard time.

And you are all training your kids to be lazy too
I don't use paper plates regularly, but this take is bullshite. We do at least one load of dishes a day (2 kids) and it takes much longer than 3 seconds. It's honestly a pain in the arse to unload the prior load, prewash the new load, then put the new load in the dishwasher...among all the other daily tasks that come with having a family with young kids. It makes complete sense why some opt for paper plates on most occasions. It's efficient and practical.

I mean I have kids too. Taught them how to cook, then clean up as they go so basically everything they cooked with is clean by the time they’re done and ready to eat. And 2 seconds to wash a plate. I just don’t get using the “I have have kids” excuse, it just comes off as I can’t parent them and teach them to clean up after themselves.
Did your kids do all of this when they were toddlers or even a little older than that?

We have to segregate our trash in Germany. No way I’m taking my paper trash out every day because I don’t want to wash dishes.

If I wanted to eat off paper plates, I would have stayed single
